Wonderful toys, both. @MonstaIslandCzar Ben, when you posted that guy on instagram, I think it blew my mind a little. I don't think I have seen a marbling this crazy before. Whereas I think from most it would come off looking as a hot mess - or worse still, just a pile of brown vinyl - I can't beliebe the effect Dennis has achieved here. Really is spectacular, a great example.

Just a gentle nudge reminder to everyone, 'cause I am a board stickler, and I see this is also happening in the M1 thread, let's try to keep the discussions separate for release/make/general line info, versus the sharing/showing collection stuff. Thanks!

Thanks to the person who made this possible!
I know that here on the board there are several spider lovers, if you could help me to identify this version, I know that it is from 2018 probably from San Diego Comic-con.?

@Alebrije Summer 2018 release for somewhere in Japan. Not sure which event. Dennis dressed ‘em up to look like Japanese summer frozen treats by placing them in treat cups and wrapping them in a plastic bag with a twist tie.

Thank you very much for the information Robert, the only thing that I was sure was about the year but I did not know the origin of this spider and with this extra information you gave me it cleared the doubt where did it come from, because I did not remember seeing this version in Dennis' normal runs.
    Thank’s

There were also 5 of those at KaijuCult (also 2018?). I think the feet are numbered, I have one as well.

Correct, that year there were those 5 kumon, a one-off GID large kumon and the first release of the minis

Not sure which Japanese event it was, but Robert mentioned it above. I just tagged you in Dennis’ IG photo

I believe these might have been at all three events. Kaiju Kult. In ATL. Also at Monster Mash at Block1750 (this was the show tru slithers did and he had micros at this show but it was never advertised) not sure what show happened first but then these marbled versions appeared again in Japan as Robert stated so it’s either they had 12 for the American shows and extra for the Japan show. I also believe one of these was sent to Australia for the first mayhem show as I remember Seeing it in the photo of all the ones he sent.

Thank you all (@xSuicide Squadx, @Russblue11, @kid_miracleman, @HardDragon) for all the information, I try to locate where each of my spiders comes from but sometimes with so many events and versions it is easy to get confused, it would be interesting to be able to make a kind of catalog even if it were digital with the chronology of all Kumons, it would be almost impossible to catalog all of them, as there are some that may be in the hands of certain collectors and have never come to light, but at least most of them.

I know that there are several Kumon lovers on the board and there are several who have been collecting these beautiful spiders for years.
I have a question I hope and you can help me; A couple of days ago I started to accommodate and clean one of the cabinets where I have the Kumons and when I take a couple of them I noticed that they felt oily and a little sticky, I would like to know if anyone has noticed the same thing in their Kumon, lately It has been too hot here despite having the Master Cool all day, I must say I only noticed it in a couple of Kumon which were marbled.
I would like to know your opinion so that I can rule out the climate issue or know what could be causing this phenomenon.
    Thank you!

@Alebrije That’s pretty normal. It’s what’s referred to as “vinyl sweat” and happens due to a certain component of the chemical mixture in the vinyl being oxidized. Or at least that’s what I was once told! It’s happened to toys I’ve owned from various regions and manufacturing. A simple, soft wipe down with a warm rag or rubbing alcohol will clean it up just fine.

Thanks for the information Robert, I'm going to practice a little bath on those sweaty spiders. With the information you have given me, I feel calmer because I was afraid that the vinyl sweat was caused by the extreme heat that it has done these days and that it is forecasting for the rest of the week.
By the way where did you find that beauty, I remember seeing years ago a Kumon with a similar shade of green but it was also GID. Thank you for sharing those amazing photos as always.

Given the taboo for cleaning vinyl records with alcohol, my preference for cleaning vinyl toys has always been warm water and soap, especially painted/ clear coated.(And I am even more careful w/ my vinyl discs, but my toys stay off my turntable.)

@Biff I’d have to echo in agreement the preference of warm water and soap, but if it’s only a spot or two I usually just take a q - tip and a gentle rub to the affected area.

@Alebrije I found this Kumon in Mandarake Akihabara in 2015. I believe the location is called The Complex on Manda’s site, but at the time they were in - store sales only. So I found some great fighters, this Kumon, some BxH and a lot of blank Bemon in that location.

@xSuicide Squadx Lovin' that green fella there Robert, he could definitely sway me towards an upainted toy.

I agree with some gentle soap/warm water for a quick clean. Depending on the age and degree of tackiness, this usually does the trick (but sometimes you might actually get a toy from a batch of paint that wasn't quite mixed right). Keep in mind I am talking general, and not Dennis'.
Probably a discussion for another thread, but I'd welcome to hear some treatments on this front as well. :) I recently picked up some Vinyl Revival, which I have not had a try of yet, but is supposed to be quite good.

Okay, Dennis has been working so hard to get these out to people, and has faced a lot of setbacks in doing so (out of his control). Having this release be set up for the fans, delivering a high number to those who wanted them, and then having it hit in the pandemic, the circumstances are really unfortunate. So while this is always frustrating to see from a personal perspective, having this take place with this release and in the current situation makes it even harder to swallow:

Yeah I didn’t get in for one of these due to everything else going on and have regretted it since. Makes me especially sad to see one hit Mandarake this quickly.

Thanks Roger! I really appreciate seeing such a beautiful Kumon, and in a really great home of a deserving fan. This release comes off so well, really showcasing Dennis' incredible skills in the vinyl medium. Whereas I think almost anyone attempting this would just end up with a brown mess, his craft shines and delivers so much amazing colour in this guy. You could never even achieve this with paint. Congratulations on landing such a beautiful one, and the way I see it is every one of these is completely unique and a 'one-off' of a very skilled artist, while other people are busy chasing (and paying thousands for) less versions of toys because of popularity. I am very happy that you finally opened him up and are enjoying him, and it is a lovely photo with that setting. Thank you for sharing this.
