Stumbled on an upload of one of the many lo-fi cassette comps from the '90s that I dearly miss: Overjoyed! It's like a warm bath after a season in the tundra. I was half considering posing this in the Fuck Yeah! thread. Might not be your bag. That's cool.
Two hours of Michigan melancholy lifted from private press releases. Obscure universals, you could say.
Hi friends! I just released two new singles with my band Kubot at Bandcamp. You can download them for free or name your price. Might be up your alley if you're into bands like Boards of Canada, Tortoise, Kraftwerk, Aphex Twin, Mouse on Mars, Daft Punk etc. kubot.bandcamp.com
Do you ever do that thing where you realize that you have absolutely no idea what Kanye West's music sounds like and then go on with your day? I mean, I could have heard fifty songs by him in passing and never known it, probably more like a dozen, but I'm honestly pretty confident that in the gun-to-your-head situation that never really happens, I'd be dead on the ground before I'd be able to name a track, let alone hum one for the homicidal quizmaster. Decided to give a listen to College Dropout tonight. Could well save my life some day, who knows?
Only song I’ve ever appreciated by Kanye’s solo work is “Flashing Lights.” I’m more a fan of his production work for the likes of Talib Kweli, Common and a couple Jay - Z.
Mos Def and Talib Kweli is one of THE best hip hop duos to ever exist. The Black Star LP is perfect front to back, but this is infinitely my jam track.
@toothaction I grew up in a healthy mixture of music in my household. My Mom was disco and oldies, my Dad was country, my Tata was jazz and Spanish guitar, my brothers were hip hop, R&B and gangster rap, and my oldest sister listened to a lot of Mexican hip hop/rap. My friend Nick got me into Silverchair, Nirvana, Bush and Deftones in fifth grade. Then in seventh grade two goth girls in the next grade up got me into KoЯn, Marilyn Manson, Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails. I discovered a lot of nu - metal, death and black metal on my own. Just snowballed into finding out about hardcore and metalcore from there goin’ into high school. I like to keep a pretty wide array of musical genre choices, but I do have hubs of where I reside more often over the rest!
@jmabasa I listen to some industrial, but not much, and what I’d consider to be the more mainstream stuff. Ministry, Bile, KMFDM, Lords of Acid, My Life With the Thrill Kill Cult, the aforementioned NIИ, Skinny Puppy, Stabbing Westward, Pitchshifter, etc. Always up for suggestions if you wanna throw some songs into the thread!
My favorite industrial and power electronics group is Haus Arafna. I’d recommend the Children of God and Butterfly albums.
Been revisiting this album a lot lately. Not a whole lot of black metal I know of out of Finland, but this one is pretty brutal in all aspects, from front to back. George C. Scott’s short monologue from The Exorcist III is also a great intro into the track itself.
ALMOST forgot how amazing this album is...if you have an hour to burn this ain't the worst way to spend it! Masayoshi Takanaka is a damned genius composer and musician...and this album is all over the place. Jazz, rock, some funk and symphonic elements, synths, all very groovy and accessible. So fun. The motif and spoken word is based on the "The Rainbow Goblins" book.
