Not surprised, but this feels like one of the first official 'Yeahhhh, about the rest of 2020...' announcements:

    https://www.latimes.com/california/...avirus-concerts-sporting-events-2021-garcetti

Understanding the infection wave that rippled out from the Championship League match in Lombardy, Italy, though, it doesn't seem like there's a lot of options.

I think this is fine to be perfectly honest. Snap decisions without the facts is just a disaster waiting to happen. Look what's happening in Hokkaido right now. They're experiencing a second wave of infections and they jumped on containment fast, like super fast.

I'm not afraid of this virus for myself. I don't meet the base demographics for succumbing to Covid 19. However, there's NO guarantee. I could be that one. So why take the chance? Further, and more importantly are the people that do meet the criteria. Both of my in-laws are in that group, being 90 and 86 years of age... No thanks. I'll continue to lose my mind sheltering in place.

Further, I'm not going to let that fucker Trump directly or indirectly because of his failure to act quickly and responsibly kill me. I'm going to stay alive simply out of spite

Glad you're not at either place now - though both are great hospitals!

everyone else hearing the rumbling about a possible correlation between Covid deaths and Vitamin D deficiency?
I'm sure supplements are about to get hoarded.

They say that 39 - 42% of the US population is vitamin D deficient
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6075634/

Last year I couldn't shake a constant fatigue after a nasty flu. Turns out that a blood test detected extremely low levels of D, so they put me on 4000 units (that's 4x's the RDA) for a month, and it made a shocking difference. Not enough sunlight, office jobs, and sunscreen, prevent us from getting out D's from the sun 8)

looks like 4000 IU is the upper limit. I know i'm deficient so its worth doing regardless

Don't over do the iu's, as long term it's hard on your kidneys to extract the "waste" (also hard on the liver too). This generally goes for all supplements, after your body intakes what it needs, your body needs to remove the excess levels of vitamins and minerals, as it can become toxic. Generally you pee out all the extra supplements (that's why urine is very yellow/concentrated) your body can't use. Unless you have a medical condition, or you're a super athlete, or need extra short term elevated levels, more is not better, and it's a waste of money buying super hyped concentrations (not to mention the added work that your kidneys and liver needs to do to remove them).

If you know you are deficient then try not to go for more than a month on extended strength, definitely consult your doctor before doing so. For general maintenace, aim for 1000 iu's daily. I'm using Jarrow's Bone-up, which contains D and addtional vitamins and bone support minerals. A bit pricey, and you take 2 capsules, three times a day with meals -- the daily dosage is 6 capsules a day (supplements are best taken at meal time, so they bind with food and are more readily incorporated into the body). Better to space out the dosage for timed absorbtion throughout the day....

Thank you. yes, I have dark skin in a northern climate- so i don't doubt i'm majorly deficient. I'll shop around keeping 1000 IUs as the daily goal in mind.

Got my COVID-19 antibody testing on Friday and just got the results.

I believe I got it in early/mid March. An employee of mine showed up looking like death warmed over, passing out in his chair, etc. No idea why he came in when I told him "if you are sick stay home". I had to send him home he was in such bad shape and I don't want to be some shitty boss who ignores that his employees are, you know, people.

I got an e-mail from my company saying I may have interacted with someone who had COVID-19 and knew who it was immediately. I haven't been as tired as I felt when I had it in YEARS: just woke up exhausted and went straight back to bed for like, 3 days.

    Take care out there people.

I am not sure what the 'good job' is, I guess making it through? Just so unclear from the context, what a strange email to get from a doctor. But anyways, glad your body managed to fight it off and build up the Abs. Definitely no joke; stay safe and healthy everyone.

Yeah, context is she felt it was incredibly statistically unlikely but when I told her my symptoms and my situation she said maybe she'll be surprised.

She's done hundreds of these and I'm only the 2nd one who had it that wasn't a healthcare worker.

Honestly, I think we're all adjusting, and certainly some countries have handled it a lot better than others. I am not living anywhere where I would not cast stones at the government for some really poor decisions.... but really, with each passing day that goes by in the US, we are truly being treated to some idiocy. I feel so, so sorry for the lives that are being gambled with and sacrificed, in the midst of this global pandemic. I could post so many truly terrible quotes here, but it has gone so far past the point of being laughable. With everything else that is going on right now, I am not an American, but I empathise deeply for the struggles of normal, decent folk.

I voted in person yesterday in the runoff for primary candidates for the elections this fall. The Texas establishment has managed to quash expansion of mail in voting, but has authorized expansion of early voting. I'm lucky to live in a county with well run and well funded election operations. There were only a handful of people when I was voting, and it seemed no more hazardous than a trip to the grocery. Less so, really. It will be interesting to see what it like this fall.

Well, the missus just got a call this morning that she worked with someone that was exposed this past Saturday. We got tested last Thursday and got the results on Monday, so it happened in the middle of our waiting period for the results. Now we’re panicking like fuck all and wondering when we should get tested again. Fuck Doug Ducey for not shutting down the state. Hoping against all hope.

Funny, I lost an online friend in AZ last month for having the audacity to suggest to her that "getting back to work" might be premature, and that our governors and president needed to do a lot more to contain things nationally and support things locally before we just resumed life as was. I may have told her that I lacked a certain amount respect for our elected officials, and mentioned what I thought get back to work was code for, at which point she told me how healthy her entire family was, how we had the best and most thorough testing in the world, and that I was possibly the least respectful person that she'd ever met.

    Okay.

Now, for whatever reason, I'm hearing about her state every day in the news... Can't help but wonder if two and two are equaling four for her yet.

So sorry to hear about the exposure, Robert. Keep us posted, eh?

I am honestly afraid not just for Americans, but for all the world as this pandemic continues to go uncontained in the US. And largely entirely due to mismanagement and, shall we politely say, 'resistant' attitudes towards it. Look at how the virus spread from a single city in a country across the world, and then start to think of the number of infections in the US right now, and it's overall population, with all the transport and shipping links it has.

This is just incredible: U.S. coronavirus cases rise by record 60,565 in single day, deaths increasing
    :|

I admit, I am not American (in the traditionally used sense of the word), but I find the responses I have seen on the news to this utterly shocking. I am not saying it is everyone, it is most definitely not, but how could anyone really believe that a global pandemic is not happening right now, with all the evidence in your face and on every corner. And to think that medical advice is somehow an attack on your freedoms?! Honestly, I just do. Not. Get. It.

At this point denying coronavirus is a serious issue is akin to saying racism doesn't exist.
