Those IKB auctions were something, I have been watching a few of them recently. The crawling version is actually my favourite of them all, and seeing one come up for sale with the original header was a great treat. I would love a chance at the artwork alone, but of course this is a dream I realise. I would not be surprised at all if some of the really heavy hitters of collecting (including some from here possibly) came out for this auction. And yet, even with that being said, I think the price was very reasonable. I expected it to go far higher, and when you hold that up against the $1k plus mark that brand new toys go for these days :? (or even more, if we want to look at a recent Medicom exclusive) than this is a no brainer (no pun intended).

Looking at the King Joe, on the other hand, one can see the extreme versions of collecting. It is such a choice piece, there is not questioning that at all - but that figure, on a toy, holy cow. That is an annual salary for a good portion of people. Then we are talking the insurance, provenance, not being able to see it in person, etc. I have no doubts on this toy itself, I am just saying as an example. How can you just drop cash like that for a [standard] internet auction? I am blown away, but of course impressed. Anyway, happy that we have the lovely pics to save here for future reference, because I know I won't ever be in that league remotely.

Nothing super rare or overly special to see here, but as I have been hunting one of these for many years now, I thought I would save this here for posterity, if only for my own reference - aka, because my hunt will have to continue. :(

Hi Steve, you put your finger on the sore with that post, my maximum bet was 41,000 yen so I lost it for very little, I still haven't recovered from that.

I was following that IKB No1 standing pollution monster, I didn't put some money into it cos I felt that there was something weird about that toy. the sprays seems off to me. the body sprays that I have seen are all in a upside down v this version had spots. Also the arms had sprays and I had never seem, or could not find vintage pics of examples on line that did not remind me of Hukkokudo versions. I wonder if other folks saw the same thing and stayed away, thus the price, cos I did thought this toy was gonna sell for 1k. The only thing to contradict my armature vintage toy collecting analysis on this toy was that it had bubbles in the left foot. which I have only seen in vintage toys. Can somebody shed some light?

That is SO weird, because a white/grey Marusan Alien Ikarus actually also sold yesterday on Mandarake. Two of these in a day, truly bizarre.

Not quite as good condition maybe, a little dirtier around the feet and perhaps more wear (or just less heavily applied) black paint, but for considerably less (1/3 of the YJA price above). Not that I could have grabbed him, but was mightily impressed to see him all the same.

Ah, what a nice figure! You don't see too many Jumborg A toys around, especially on the larger scales, but I have not see this clear helmeted fella before. Looks like a bootleg as far as I can tell; maybe ever from the same company that did the FAH ones. I am not at all surprised he fetched a good price in the end. Thanks @NewChrissy for sharing this guy here!

Auction was an insane price. Most likely since the vinyl still retained more of the blue grey color. I wish i had not missed the mandarake one.

Never seen this one before, pretty fun looking triceratops meets robo. It looks as if it has a battery-powered feature as well? The tag art is also quite fantastic with some goofy looking familiar faces!

Thanks for sharing this amazing fella, Kerk. I've posted on these before here. That is a crazy price for one though, I am astounded. There must have been a few bidders who were really keen on it. There are a couple of these, and I am completely in love with them. I have taken a few stabs at past auctions, but if this is to be taken as a sign of their current going rate, I am sad that I will only ever get to enjoy their glorious pachi weirdness in photos.

Lovely fellow ended just shortly ago. I was eagerly watching this auction. I have always deeply loved the Marusan originals, in fact, the repro versions are a key factor into what pulled me into this hobby in the recent era. Among those, my natural love of Ultraman just has to draw me to this 'Ultra' figure. I love it, big paunch and all. And to see one like this come up for sale with that great original artwork, well, even if I could not make it mine it is still a major treat. Toys like this give me a massive childish grin, and are just why I love the hobby.

Also, I think it is pretty incredible to see one in this condition. I mean, having the header is a massive win, and then also the baggie, AND the original insert flyer - these are things I would rarely expect outside of the 'neo' versions. But if you look closely at the condition of these, unlike most of the other vintage toys I have seen come up with packaging, the condition is virtually like new. The bag is crisp and clear, the colours super bright on the header, and even the original sticker is still there shiny any new. There is next to no wear that I can see on the edges either, and just minor to the hang tag. The insert is nice and white, and probably just has wear/colour from being in the bag with the toy. Pretty phenomenal, I would guess this was stored for some time. In end end, I think this was a very incredible bargain to a lucky buyer. For the figure alone, this is not high. I'll happily catalogue it here for reference, as I don't think many examples like this will come up again.

And I can mention it just one more time, look at that header art!!!! :D

Here is another one I had on my radar from earlier this month. A fairly rare standard sized Flasher (フラッシャー) from Flying Attack Human by Yonezawa. It is hard enough to find these guys, but this one - in excellent condition - also still has the backing card and header. A lovely toy, I am envious of the winner of the auction.

That Flasher is incredible. Been after any of these guys for a long time. One day.
Even rarer is the actual show they come from. Not a single episode has appeared online, there are 13 episodes total so its surprising that a fair amount of toys were produced (where as something like UFO Fighting Red Tiger which is equally as rare but had close to 40 episodes produced only has two small figures and only of the main hero).
Its also one of (if not the only) tokusatsu series that 90% of was filmed in front of a live studio audience.

Steve I was also following this villain that for my taste is one of the best vintage villains, I tell you that I put my bet for the 50,000 yen at the beginning but obviously it was not enough, there is something that causes me a bit of concern and I do not know if I am the only one, I feel that the face may have been repainted or the worker in charge of the painting was new and overworked him. According to other similar figures that I have seen, the face is not completely silver, only its two fly eyes, the part of the mouth should be on the black vinyl. But either way it's a beautiful piece.

Yeah, I am not sure either really Roger; but wasn't quite so skeptical I think. That could be, but I can also say that on the Yonezawa figures I have seen a ton of variation in how they have ended up being painted, with all kinds of different silver eye paint on the smaller Flashers.

You are right Steve with certain vintage figures it is difficult to know what exactly happened during production.

This seller had a good listing of nice vintage toys, including this set of three sparkers. Got to say, have been chasing these for a while, and despite them not being rare, I never seem to have much luck. Does seem to be a fair bit of attention on vintage toy auctions these days, maybe a little harder to snag a bargain. But anyways, these were some really nice examples. Gorgeous condition and excellent paint, I can see why they ended getting noticed:

Bullmark Godzilla sparker figure, ended at 53k yen

Bullmark Earthtron sparker figure, ended at 53k yen

Bullmark Jirass sparker figure, ended at 39.5k yen

Ah, thanks Charlier, I missed that one. Dang hard to pick a favourite amongst the four of them. Luckily I have not yet been faced with this dilemma.
