I've been using Rinkya for years but recently I've been having problems with payments not going through, etc. I'm wondering if it's time to switch services. Any recommendations?

I’ve been using Buyee for a few years now, and I’m really happy with the service. Easy to use, the fees aren’t too bad, 30 day warehouse holding is free, EMS is the only(best) shipping option outside of DHL, and they do a great job of condensing orders and packing them very nicely.

Jauce is pretty good too, similar to Buyee. You can check and compare, i usually use Jauce but my buddies use Buyee.

I have been using ZenMarket: 300 yen fee per item and 45-day warehouse holding is free, after that a 50yen/item/day charge would start accruing. Their packages have been well-packed and arrived without issue.

I haven't bought recently but I didn't have any problems with Buyee either. Real-time bidding is nice and it uses your credit card information once you've won so you don't need to pay up front. The only potential issue is Buyee doesn't let you bid on items from sellers who are new or have negative feedback.

This is actually, I’ve come to find, their way of sidestepping accounts that sever the ability for proxy bids. There’s accounts I’ve wanted to bid for that had hundreds positive feedback and zero negative that say I can’t due to low ratings. I also have my PayPal linked. If I had my credit card linked I’d be in way too deep.

Ive been using celga for like 9 years. Their per item fees are a little more than most but they have no warehousing fees. I can keep items there however long i want. The big selling point for me has been the fact that I have my own account. This lets me bid when I want, have a watch list, use the YJA mobile app etc. Im not sure if they still offer that.

I’ve never used Celga before, but Buyee offers all of the exact same, except for the unlimited warehouse holding. After 30 days they charge you, but I’m not sure how much. My favorite about Buyee is it also gives me a native sniper bid tool, since a lot of auctions end at very inconvenient times for US based schedules.

I have used the Shopping Mall Japan service for a while to place my bets on YJP but about two weeks ago I have not been able to use their services the page does not allow me to make more bets, contact me with their customer service and apparently they will be out of business to make purchases in JP, does anyone know more about these?

Fuck, I didn't know this. I guess my deposit with them is gone forever now. They were an awesome service to use.

Edit: Contacted them this morning and they already returned my deposit. Their contact email is still being used if anyone needs to contact them: webmaster@shoppingmalljapan.com

That was going to tell you before finishing your post; that their mail is still available, what I understood is that they stopped receiving any bets and they will finish the pending shipments and the refunds as well.

Just to compare the two I made a buyee account and downloaded the mobile app to try it out. Its similar in that it has a watchlist, and can bid when you want. The app itself isnt as well designed and doesnt perform as well next to the official Yahoo Auctions app. The snipe feature is nice, especially if you're on the west coast. It would drive me nuts though as once you do that it wont let you bid again the regular way. Its definitely the next best thing to having your own account. Way better than just emailing a proxy service to bid for you.

I've been using Buyee for the past couple of years. @daveblog introduced me to Zenmarket but I haven't used it yet. The fee structure looks nicer than Buyee and Dave says that you can purchase items from the Hobby Off stores through it.

I also like the fact that Buyee makes it easy for you to consolidate separate purchases and send them together; when combined with the month free storage, it is very convenient if you are bidding (or sniping) things that end a week apart. Also their postage rate for larger shipments are also reasonable.

Aww, but see the down fall to my method is that I forget about it and then end up getting doubles, in some cases triple lol

I have a dumb ZenMarket question for anyone who uses that proxy...

How can you tell if you're the highest bidder?

For some reason i'm having a hard time seeing if I am indeed the high bidder on an item.

I was the first bidder on an item (ending tomorrow) with a price of 1,000yen, and overbid it by 8,000yen. Then at some point there was another bid by someone else bringing it to 1,500yen. Now the auction shows that there were two bids. I would have assumed that ZenMarket would have automatically made a 3rd higher bid on my behalf (since I overbid), but I don't see anything telling me i'm the high bidder... And seeing there are only two bids worries me.. (Unless ZenMarket doesn't count my initial first bid as a "bid")

ZenMarket is giving the option to manually "bid" again, but if I do that, is it possible that if I am indeed the highest bidder, would I be bidding against myself?

I wish they had some icon saying "you're the highest bidder, chill out" somewhere...maybe i'm overcomplicating this?

    Thanks for any insight!

No, but I fully agree it is silly, and also frustrating. I think (but don't have any live auctions bidding right now) there might have been a page on my auctions (or something similar) where it listed all your bids and the ones you were winning might have been highlighted (e.g. in bold green maybe?).

The only real way I know for sure is, if you are using the website and navigate to the auction through the live bidding link, it will tell you what the current bid is at - sort of the centre of the page - and then to the right side of that it will list your high/maximum bid. Which won't necessarily be what it is right now, but it should generally bid up to that value for you.

Multiple bids will keep increasing every time someone tries to outbid you, even if you are the highest. Example, you place a bid for 38000 for a sweet Marusan figure [#bids = 1], the current bid is 1000, someone bids 1500 (the typical interval is 500yen) [#bids = 2], there will be an auto-bid by ZM for you to 2000 [#bids = 3], and so forth.

Thanks for the explanation @ultrakaiju !
I usually use ZenMarket for things that have a "buyout price" which has been pretty clear to me... the bidding process could definitely be a little clearer.

In my account area in ZenMarket I do see my item highlighted in a green color, so i'll just assume it's all good. Thanks for that tip. (But I wonder if green just means the auction has not ended yet?)
It still seems confusing to me that when I click "show bid history" it just shows two bids... I'd expect to see three bids (my first bid on the item, someone else's, then ZenMarkets automatic 3rd bid putting me back to highest bidder) ... I guess it must not count my initial first bid as a "bid" in the bid history..

Hmm.. Even on the YAJ website, i google translated the text and it says only 2 bids...

Hmm, I am really not sure then, without knowing more specifics. If you want, you can PM me the auction, and I can see what it shows as under my ZM account.

    DM sent, thanks!

Also, I've tried contacting ZM three days ago with these questions, but have not heard back from them, so who knows! hah
