Perhaps I've missed it but when I've searched, I cannot find a thread that takes me down the narrow corridors, filled with dusty shelves, of an old library, to the section marked: All Things Vinyl. If I have missed it, my apologies; if I have not, I'd really appreciate recommendations on books relating directly, or indirectly, to the creation of, inspiration for and history of vinyl art. Although I have quite a few books on things that many of the modern artists have referenced for their sofubi pieces, I have only two that relate to our shared collecting passion (both which have come from recommendation): Super7 - International Toy Pirates & So Crazy Japanese Toys by Jimbo Matisonn Therefore, perhaps it would be useful to others, and not only myself, if you could recommend any books that you've found interesting and useful that have a relevance to vinyl art collecting.
I typed in “kaiju books” in the search bar. http://skullbrain.org/bb/index.php?threads/updated-9-9-kaiju-books.36559/page-5#post-840356
Obviously you were aggressively stabbing the keyboard with yer fat sausage-fingers and the interweb said 'fuck you!'.
I would also search here for "ISBN," every time I've shared info about a book and it had one, I included it.
Thanks Roger. Unfortunately, after looking through the old thread, it would appear that many of the books are now out of print and even appear to be unavailable on the secondary market. The Encyclopedia of Kaiju and Sean Linkenback's The Art of Japanese Monsters were of immediate interest; however, I'm struggling to find the former and I may have just found one copy of the later (Linkenback's) but the seller is checking whether he still has it in stock (NOS). Just like many of the toys, the books are appearing equally hard to find and requiring the necessary patience and tenacity. At least I now have titles and ISBNs to work with. Thank you all.
I was actually playing around with Mandarake's URLs recently, see if these help. Here is the toy book category: https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/listPage/list?categoryCode=013306 Here is the sofubi toy book subcategory off of that one: https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/listPage/list?categoryCode=01330602
Superb, thanks Roger; those links are very useful. The chap I mentioned above still had the NOS The Art of Japanese Monsters in stock, so I have snaffled that up. Now off to spend some yen!
