This is where it gets tricky, vintage is a very broad general term that applies to pretty much all objects, not just toys. It’s fine if your preference is for licensed properties, of the time, but I don’t think you can just say a real head toy will never be vintage because it wasn’t a licensed toy targeted at kids.

I think it's an interesting question whether any of the toys produced primarily- perhaps, solely- for an adult collector market will ever really be considered 'vintage toys'. Will people ever be talking about vintage blind box figures from KR?

To me, vintage implies a certain level of nostalgia that doesn't really exist for designer toys or collector-targeted products.

So I’m just now catching up with today’s new posts, and the... ::ahem:: discussions, so I’m just now getting the joke. ;). Note to anyone reading this- if you make it past the 10 year mark on the board you can make up as many new topics as you like and it’s 100% legal.

All of my comments about "vintage" have been in reference to Japanese character toys, licensed or otherwise. I was not talking about any other objects.

Marusan Godzilla, IKB Zagora, Chogokin Mazinger-Z, Astro Mu 5 Capsule Robo G, etc. I consider them all vintage Japanese character toys.

Soul of Chogokin, Soul of Bullmark, Hukkokudo reissues, NagNagNag, M1GO tricycles, etc. all feature vintage styling, tooling, and characters, and some are even made in Japan. I will never consider any of those items "vintage."

Maybe a Real Head toy will be considered "vintage" to someone else in a post-Milennial generation, but not me.

    This:

An item should be at least 100 years old to be defined as an Antique. Generally speaking if the item is not less than 20 years, it falls under the term Vintage.

Something Antique is also Vintage, but something Vintage isn't necessarily Antique.

Vintage just refers to something that is from an earlier generation.
