That seems to be my response to 95% of stuff that's posted these days (the 'fugliest toys' thread just being the tip of the iceberg).

Soooo much suck! . . . and if it doesn't suck, it's overhyped, overpriced or involves the royal reacharound for the opportunity to buy!

Waiting patiently for the next 5%!

Absolutely. It is literally why I am here!
Not to say you are wrong, just fascinating to learn how differently we all react to the same stimuli.
So, I only started commenting to understand exactly WHY other collector's feel the way they do.

This is true, but if I'm being honest, MOST sofubi look like subtle to not-so-subtle mashups homages to existing kaijus, monsters, and traditional artworks. Since we're talking about Karzworks, one of my favorite possessions is their Nyarlathotep.
Which is a hybrid design of fine art's creepiest/most disturbing works. Francis Bacon's triptych, which heavily influenced Giger's early concepts for the Chestbursters in Alien. [IMG]
I think that's the coolest thing ever, but I suppose it's pushing the limits of a true TOY toy.
And I get that caveat that many collectors need it to be a toy and not a slightly poseable model kit. Totally fair.

This is important to me too sometimes as well.
I have these more gnarly sculpts in totally separate displays than my more "toyetic" sofubi.
I will say that Behemos definitely does not look like a digital sculpt in-person.
That detail is intense, but it's pretty obviously not perfect either, just enough imperfection to give it a hand-made quality.

I 100% know what you mean though. Digital seems to give some artists just WAY too much freedom,
because the results are often an ilegible clusters of chaos.

LOL, you know EXACTLY as much as I do, maybe?
Again, I just wanted to offer a counter opinion.
I appreciate your responses because I actually think we share many aesthetic preferences.
Just maybe not on ol' Peanut here.

And now, I'm considering completely rethinking my paint scheme and going full blown PB&J!
Or at the very least, I'm thinking of something more vibrant to make it as fun as possible.

They were one of the first artists that pulled me into the hobby.
So maybe I am a little biased.

I've got a Nyarlathotep, a Triffid, and this Bihimos.

We are definitely in the 1993-ish period of sofubi being a parallel to the comics boom of the 90s... I have compared PlanetxAsia to Image Comics in the past.. let me clarify I'm talking 2nd wave Image like 'Team Youngblood' 'Witchblade' etc. As cheesy as Wildcats/Cyberforce/Youngblood/Spawn were, to compare these toys to the original Image boys that would be giving these hacks too much credit.

It's definitely a speculator market atm @taviq and people are hunting for that new character that's gonna be worth 10 times the price in a few years time. I don't think it's gonna happen with any of this new fugly shit... maybe a few flash in the pan hype toys here and there that will go for top dollar on Mandarake for a few months. All of these new makers using shitty vinyl are the Malibu/Chaos equivalents.. rotting zombie dick McFarlane style overly detailed painted vinyl figures and are the gigantic breasted/cybernetic limbed heros that we saw back in those days. Of course there are exceptions like Karzworks who are actual OG but we know a huge pile of shit when we smell it.

There is a lot of vinyl being pumped out over the past few years... where is all of this stuff going to end up?? I'm having images of a sofubi island floating in the ocean somewhere - consisting mostly of PlanetxAsia/Red Hot Style/Don't Cry in the Morning/Oltretomba/etc .. Heck there's a lot of high quality shit going around too, it might be worthwhile catching a boat out there in 2025 to fish out some HxS

Just when I thought I couldn’t hate a toy any further, it’s accompanied by endorsing facism:

Oof. The paint looks to be brushed an inch thick, too. In acrylics, apparently? I'm actually surprised because the head is even enough but the goggles are just

Guys will buy it after seeing that close-up too.

That hippo slug is probably the worst toy of the decade.

There’s nothing wrong with the pic, it’s the toy that’s the issue. Lol. I just immediately saw those lame “80s neon pop culture mashup” illustrations...

After looking for a bit I found the Freddy and Terminator illustrations forced. But my first thought was that lame 80s neon pop culture mashups are sick

I'm not a fan of these super flat surfaces. I get that it's so the artist can paint designs, but it just feels like the figure is wearing clothing made out of cardboard. I have the same issue with TKOM's Doublethink

So many diverse facets of suck on this page! . . . The chintzy 80's airbrushed illustrations are 'classy' in comparison to anything else!

The Unicorn turd that @hellopike posted and the Samson painted using Bart Simpson's rag on a stick from @zindabad just highlight how godawful the new sofubishitshow™ really is!
