I’ve been using Detolfs from Ikea for years. They’re relatively inexpensive, they’re easy to add lighting to and they look great. I use acrylic risers and spice organizers within the cases to display my toys at various heights in order to fit more in each case. www.gemsondisplay.com has sweet deals on acrylic risers! Here is the most recent photo I’ve got of my set up. I’ve scored about another half dozen larger pieces that I need to fit in here which most likely means I’m going to have to pull a lot of stuff out and rearrange.. Spoiler: I’ve hidden the image cos there are a few KR pieces in the pic..
Thanks; it came to around $35 after tax, so not too bad, but I could only do one for now, but it was a success! Thanks for the idea! Lulu juuuust fits (the next batch will have a tiny more space as I've had a multi-mold made so they are a little bit smaller). Lulu Case with Friends by Doug Hardy, on Flickr
That 4 rack is nice but the inside bottom to top dimensions is 4.75. While the ones from Michaels is 5.7” so I don’t think the kumon could quite fit in the 4 rack or at least it would be very tight but might fit other figures pretty nice. Also having them separate can give you the advantage to stager them each however you wanted.
Does anyone use acrylic risers or something similar in their display cases? I feel I'm wasting a lot of space in these Detolfs and risers would help a bunch, but they seem pretty pricey and I can't find a good site with a lot of variety in sizing
I wanted custom fitted risers (cheap or free!), I had some scrap lumber cut to the exact length and height for my cases (free ). When I pile on the toys, you can't really see the risers. If you use a Detolf, I think the wood would be visible. Here is what one of my cases look like Some Home Depot stores have a scrap lumber bin, but 2x4's are very inexpensive. Also if you see a house in the neighborhood having decking or fencing put in, you could ask for scrap lumber (also works if you have a carpenter friend! ). The custom cut risers are great, because you don't have to have multiple acrylic risers per shelf (everything is continuous).
You can also use cheap translucent food storage containers turned upside-down as well; they don't look as sharp, but most of the time they will be camouflaged by all the kaiju surrounding them anyway! They come in blue and smoke as well. https://hlj.com/collection-stage-clear-bann21050
I have a Container Store not to far from me. They have all kinds of clear plastic containers that can be used, including acrylic risers. https://www.containerstore.com/s?source=form&refinements=&q=acrylic+display&submit= I have used the clear car model display for my Detolfs. https://www.containerstore.com/s/race-car-display-cube/d?productId=10001594&q=car model display Old photo using various clear plastic containers like the car model display and various size clear baseball card containers. Since then I have switched to the acrylic risers.
Container Store has these various size clear plastic containers that I used to create the risers for this set up. I don't see it on their website. If you have a store around you, I recommend visiting Container Store as you can probably get a better idea of what you need. Craft stores like Michael's, Hobby Lobby, AC Moore will have a few basic containers like the car model display.
Great shelf Anthony, I think the Mecha Ju in the back it’s looking me, he is looking for a Gorilla Ju who to fight with, I could gladly adopt it.
https://www.gemsondisplay.com/shopd...xact=&atleast=&without=&cprice=&searchfields= This is where I get my risers from. They’re pretty inexpensive compared to other places. A small set of 3 is $2.45 and a larger set of 3 is $5.69. The price goes down if you buy more. If you bought 12 sets of each size, you’d end up with 72 various size risers for under 90 bucks.
I use the Ikea Fabrikör cabinet for the new sofubi. Have the Shirahama Toy shrine on the top because it's the family favorite.
I'm looking for a glass display case with adjustable shelves. Detolfs are pretty good but I don't like that since the shelves aren't adjustable I had to move my collection around to fit it rather than having the case fit my collection. Anyone got any good ideas?
I'm a big fan of the Fabrikör. I wish they'd do more fun colors like the green one I have, but they hold up really well.
The adjustment system for this model looks great but it's a bit small and I'd like more glass than metal which would just block the view
I want to build some shelves but right now I just crowd everything onto the desk. View this post on Instagram
anyone ever buy from Wayfair? they have a decent assortment of curios but i'm hesitant to ship that much glass https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/darby-home-co-solari-lighted-curio-cabinet-dbyc1439.html
Never ordered glass but Wayfair is great. Maybe a dozen orders and only ever had one problem. Delivery guy left the box out in the rain and it was a mattress so it was ruined. They replaced it and disposed of the ruined one for free. There is a huge online community of people who make kits to modify Detolfs. Mine had 12 shelves at one point. For the price it is pretty unbeatable since you can do so much easy modification.
found out what i was looking for, just some U bolts and extra shelves but this was interesting https://www.etsy.com/listing/581307342/detolf-shelf-extenders?ref=shop_home_active_8&crt=1 ***EDIT also founds some backgrounds i might use, just put them here i'll do some thinking and settle on something after our move
Been away for a while, here are the cases I am most proud of. Kusogon is missing a ton of newer ones.
