I like Rich's toys. They make me happy. I had a shitty week and I didn't score anything last night. I was mad then sad then I was happy because a lot of people were happy that they scored some great toys. Toys are good, they're supposed to make you happy. Be happy and don't forget to, Live. Laugh. Love. It could all be gone tomorrow.

Sounds like one of us has plenty of time for that. 5 years to be exact. Toys will be here whether you “go emo” over them or not. Sooo, just quit going emo over them. You’ve just pointed out the easiest solution to your own problem. And you could’ve just as easily done that 5 years ago.

Thanks for the shout out Rich! It’s been my pleasure. These were some fun pulls!

...and I gotta agree, these would make for some great little keychains.

Man I woke up to late and missed all the hysterics! Nothing like watching someone melt apart publicly for like the millionth time. At this point everyone has screen cap story of getting harassed over nothing. Probably wise to pick the battles that you don’t have a mountain of evidence against you.

Rich I get that trying to please everyone is near impossible and I appreciate you taking on the stress of having to try and still have people come out and try to hang you up for it. It was a large drop many people scored not everyone ever will. I myself didn’t but that’s ok there’s always the next one.

Can we interrupt this diversional discussion for some dial-up love?

Seriously, that is some stuff right there. I have fought with it for long over the 'SB years' including drops. People take internet and smart phones for granted. [And early days of collecting in general]. I have spent actual hours still on dial-up connection trolling Mandarake listings at frozen molasses' pace, trying for auctions down to the wire, desperately doing 15 min-long page refreshes during shop drops. I likely would have still more recently, had the university decided that no one used it, and stopped providing the service.

If you don't appreciate this tangent it is just to say that things change with time. Technology, focus, hobbies, 'popularity'; it all comes and goes. Sometimes, we get lucky, other times (maybe even the most) we don't. It's all part of it, and if there is no joy in it for you, then you should probably just step back and consider some other hobby. That's true for anyone.

Congrats to all the people who had some luck with this recent release, feeling that joy, and who will love and appreciate those toys. And good luck to all those people who keep trying, hopefully next time (or the one after that) maybe it will be the one for you.

I didn’t score anything last night. I splurged and rented a movie on Apple TV and I bought an entire red velvet cake and ate a massive piece with some ice cream to drown my sorrows.. it was significantly less expensive than buying a 200+ dollar toy last night and I had a great time. (BTW, if you haven’t seen “Split” yet, do it. It’s the movie that comes after “Unbreakable” and before “Glass.”)

The thrill of the chase last night definitely gave me an adrenaline rush, I was literally shaking as I was refreshing the page and trying to add stuff to my cart, which happened successfully, it was just when I went to pay that everything was already sold out.

My son is taking a nap right now but when he wakes up, we are going to play with my three little sludge demons (The only MVH toys I’ve been able to score in the past five years...) and we will have fun. Hoping I can make it to Death’s Vault this year. Hopefully I can bring my little guy along, his grandparents live in CT!

Thanks for giving us a chance @Rich I was salty for a few minutes after, but then I remembered they are just toys.

Congrats to the people who scored their first DX’s! I bet it will be a spectacular day for you when the package actually comes and you bask in all of its glory! 8)

I hope everyone has a great day and make sure to take a little time to enjoy whatever puts a smile on your face.

Wow.. This sounds exactly like the interaction I’ve had with him as well. He got all salty and started insulting me because I scored a little sludge demon and he felt I didn’t deserve it because I used to work for KR.

I realized that some people think by me saying sorry is in some sort of way of admitting to something. But it’s just how I was raised, I say I’m sorry for everything that doesn’t go well, and thank you for just about everything else. So even if a shop drop went 100% smooth and everyone scored I’d most likely pop up after and say sorry for something, even if it was irrelevant. The ocd in me wants everything to go flawless, even though I know it’s not a possibility.

And I think that with collecting over time either it makes you angry and move on. Or you realize that either it was meant to be or not and there will either be more, or you can focus on looking for past stuff. I’m a collector first and I loose all the time. Right now this weekend Headlock is dropping some Knucke toys at wondrfest. I have no way to score these. I’ll keep trying, but I’m gonna be here upset so I know the feelings. I do know there will be more and maybe some toy karma will pop up and help me land the
two somehow. And I haven’t won’t a HxS lottery in 5 years. I cherish to stuff I have, and keep moving. These are supposed to be fun. The hunt should be fun. I go into what I collect knowing the odds and at this point am cool with it. I did also miss those offwhite AirMax in desert Ore though and that is driving me nuts also, thanks snkr app for not reminding me even though I signed up. Lol

When collectors are super cool and keep a level head and understand its when you can enjoy this hobby and any other. Don’t take anything personal, and just enjoy what you have. These should bring you joy.

Glad we could all get back on track and not let this spiral out fo control.

I missed on both colors myself! That app is the worst for reminders. The only way I’ve gotten it to actually work is to hit “remind me” the day of the drop.

Nice! ... Togaimon & Kakumon are two toys I'm really looking forward to seeing in 2019. Here's hoping that some type of pre-order is still in the works??
Black blanks ?( and maybe clear red smoke??)...

you need to set your own reminder outside of the app, to remind you to go in for it. the app is garbage, but it makes sense with how many use it and such. also, you need to constantly update it as it seems to have a new version weekly just about. I've won 1 raffle on SNKRS through the years, got one early access, and scored one drop as it launched. of course, I always am forgetting to wake my ass up for the 7am PST raffles. but that's my own fault. Them Ore's were fire.

I am going to give an overly detailed description of exactly how this drop went for me because it might help someone who missed out and it might help the artists and his co-workers who put all this together. Let me start off by saying I don't got after every MVH toy. Most stuff is out of my price range and most of my collection is blanks because I loooove sculpts and playing with my toys and I get paranoid about damaging painted stuff. So this particular drop full of 200 dollar blank toys was perfect for me.

I happened to be snowed in so I was free to mess around online all evening. I saw the IG announcements about there being cart holds and thought that was cool. Then I saw the thing saying registering ahead of time was needed so I did that as well. Once Rich came on IG live and said despite all the effort it would still be a shootout because the cart hold thing wasn't working I figured I was out of luck but still felt like playing. So I went back to the site and looked around in the settings of the account I just made. It offered an option for putting in a preferred shipping address so I did that. About 5 minutes before the drop I opened a new window and logged into paypal hoping it would skip that step if I got something in my cart. Drop time came and the site updated so there were several categories to click on to buy stuff. The page froze. Kept clicking but nothing would happen. So I opened another page to the shop and clicked on "sofubi" and it loaded just fine. Put a marbled toy in my cart and clicked the pay button. It took me to paypal but that window took at least 30 seconds to load. Luckily it loaded straight into my account and not into the paypal sign in page. Clicked on my payment method and it was over. I was able to buy the toy I wanted. So I think registering and being logged in to paypal both made a big difference.

Win or lose I still appreciate the fact that someone who sells out every single time they sell toys still tries really hard over and over again to make it easier for customers. All that time and effort doesn't make him any extra money or help him sell any extra toys. He does it because he actually gives a fuck about the people who like his toys. Same reason his crew tries so hard to help make things better each time. It won't ever be perfect but that's not the point at all. The effort matters.

    This really helps !

That’s the second to say they logged in both to the site and PayPal ahead of time and that helped. But first to hear of a frozen screen, I’d like to know more about that. Wonder if it’s coding or traffic issues.

I think once the reserve buttons are added and that secured items we’ll be pretty solid.

Thanks so much for this post, this is so helpful. I do try me best, and keep trying new things. The downside is that some people think that because I moved to a new site everything should be perfect. Or that i should have everything perfectly figured out before hand. Well, nothing ever is, there is always a new problem to solve. And I’m not an tech guy, so it’s a learning experience for me also. I’d rather keep trying and dealing with fixable issues than doing nothing and letting a broke system continue. So I’ll take any heat, as long as it pushes in the right direction.

I’m gonna take note of this and see if Shopify has had this issue.

I will say, on a positive note. Inventory was rock solid. I was able to get an app that allowed me to cap what items can and can’t have multiples bought so people can’t get doubles. Now we’re working on the reserve, and any other add ins that would help. I think maybe a live inventory might be cool so people can see exactly what’s left in real time.

Man, I missed another Quentor meltdown (I'd say since they were all deleted maybe it's his last but we all know that isn't true unless he gets banned)! Now what am I going to do with this popcorn I got from Costco? :(

The drop went super easy for me. For every positive experience there is a negative. You're in the wrong hobby is you demand constant satisfaction. May I suggest Funko pops from Target?

Frankly it's ridiculous to hear people I FART A LOT about the system. The simple fact of the matter is @Rich is selling X toys and the demand is X * 10. That means 90% of people are gonna end up missing out and half of them are gonna be whiny bitches about it. Hearing people post about "cart jacking" is lame. When the reservation is set up next time it'll be the same people bitching about "cart hoarding". There is absolutely no system that can be developed that will make everyone happy (and let's be honest, the only time the people who I FART A LOT are happy are if they score and fuck everyone else anyway), so I personally think all this time @Rich is spending on solving the impossible is time he isn't spending on painting, sculpting, header art, etc. You know, the reasons we're talking about him in the first place.

I would totally love some cute, cheap, and easy to score little toys I can use on my keychain, to hang on my car mirror, etc. I was gonna drill a hole in some @RETROBAND minis I got at DCON that were doubles to make a key chain but I don't have a bit that small and I have a feeling I'd just end up injuring myself anyway

Speaking of, if anyone wants to chime in with what they would like to see on a sale site please let me know. Every add on costs, so I’m selective on what’s most important. But if it’s a good idea and the majority agree we’ll for sure look into it .

Can you explain how the reservation process would work? I saw you mention a "reserve" button, My concern would be that this could be more headache than it's worth.

What happens if I have an item in my cart, hit reserve, and then go back to get another? Is the 1st one "locked in"?

What if add an item, go add a 2nd, and then hit reserve? What if by the time I do that the first item is now gone? Would it automatically remove it and lock in the 2nd one?

I guess my point is this is really just gonna end up replacing one set of problems with another ultimately. I'll do whatever is necessary to try and score, but I will say knowing how the system works is far and away the most important way to score in a drop.

My connection lagged on the sofubi button as well. As soon as it hung up there, I knew it was over and I was gonna miss on this one. I went through the motions as quickly as I could, slammed checkout, and got the paypal notification of death that everything in my cart was sold out.

With all the traffic and what not during these drops, I'd love it the whole thing was a visual checklist-style cart screen with a big old check out button at the bottom but I don't know if that would make the traffic issue better or worse.

Everyone I’ve spoken to about it including myself had an issue with nothing happening when they clicked the Sofubi square. I only had to click back to the main page once and try again and it worked. So much traffic as the pages went live seems like a likely culprit.

A live inventory would be a cool bonus visual but I just imagine the count just dropping to zero almost instantly. Your stuff sells out so quick it would kind of seem obsolete for the figures, but worth it for T-shirts, sticker packs, etc...

And I’d LOVE a mascot keychain. Or two. ;)

I logged into my account + PayPal but had the frozen sofubi screen as well. Clicked on it 3-4 times until it finally worked. Quickly added marbled King Skull ... and still had to enter PayPal password again ! Really surprised was able to pay in time ..

Another thing i notice is some that cry about always missing don’t exactly think about doing all they could to make it easy on themselves. While others know little tricks for a edge. i.e signing into PayPal ahead of time, making accounts and saving shipping and billing if possible, google extensions for auto fill if this is not the case.
I kind of get tired of the not fairs when if they did some homework on how to work their desk or lappy, tablet or celly, there is some things to help increase your chances yourself.
These people that don’t try to do for themselves want others to share their secrets so that everyone is on a level playing field. I mean Christ did you see the IG post from the dude thinking Erik had a advantage because he made an account days ago? Yet Rich specifically made a list and asked those to take a look to get a quick idea of the layout of the new site?

Yes this is the constructive criticism that I can use to change the site for the better.

I’ll definity look into this. I can for sure change it to have all but it now on the main page Instead if having to click on a collection. I can make each item a featured item. So all would be visually on the home page with a add to cart next to it. That would help !

Also, about reserve. From what I know, it SHOULD work for every item you add it to. And it starts a count down immediately of about 15 min I think. Again I’d most likely give it a go, if it works well keep it. If it’s needs adjustments we’ll make them. If it sucks well can it. But you are right if people add to cart and leave it’s now being hostage for the time it’s held. Which would mean people would need to wait for it to add back to stock. Which is another can or worms. With that said I think I’d rather do that so people can have some time to relax after they add to cart. But we’ll see how ig goes.

Thanks guys so much for the info. I had no clue it was freezing at that screen.
