Haha maybe it's because I've only seen him as a jobber, but I've always (since starting watching njpw) been meh about Bushi, now that I know he runs a friend chicken business I like him more I do like Naito, and Takahashi from LIJ. Deestiiinoo! After watching BTE 100 I get the since they're going to do a return of Kenny thing too, which I'll be stoked about! Haha but I'll also have to like Flip Gordon.. I think I actually said out loud "don't make me like Flip" at the end of that episode. Thoughts on Jay white?
Jay White looks like that goth kid in art class that was always drawing weird shit and was probably at some point or another my friend. He's pretty alright in my book. I'm personally really excited for the new season of Lucha Underground. I don't know if you watch that promotion at all but Vampiro is an announcer which is pretty badass. I ended up watching some Triple A Lucha on Twitch and Vampiro was actually in the match which was amazing because I didn't realize the dude could still wrestle! Amazing.
Haha yeah I saw Jay white on ROH and at a roh tv taping while he was on his excursion from njpw before returning as "switchblade" haha you're right, he is like the kid you knew at school who comes back from summer vacation in a misfits shirt and zombie makeup. Haha incidentally I heard a story about the misfits vest he wears when he comes out. Apparently he's never (at the time of the interview) actually listened to the misfits and the vest was actually handed down to him from Alex Shelly, and he wears it more as a homage than anything else. Following that late night train of thought.. does anyone know why Alex Shelly wears the Teenage Bottle Rocket symbol on his pants? Maybe he just likes the band, maybe someone has a better reason.. I haven't seen any Lucha Underground, but Vampiro sounds amazing! Got any videos?
Oh also, I do like Jay white, I just think he's not ready to have the position he's found himself in.
So here’s Vampiro in the WCW And here’s Vampiro now Couldn’t find a good one where he’s actually wrestling but you get the idea
Haha speaking of the Misfits.. I haven't watched much (read any) WCW that clip makes it look pretty great! I think Thunder Liger is about the same age, crazy they can still do it! Maybe we can get some more people into this conversation. Current top five favorite wrestlers, Go! 1. Kenny Omega 2. Sami Zayne/El Generico 3. Young Bucks (sorry guys, you only count as one wrestler) 4. Kushida 5. Asuka Honorable mentions: Becky Lynch, Marty Scurll, Okada, Naito, Will Ospreay. Shinsuke, Nia Jax, Roppongi 3k
Oh man if you're a fan of Liger have you checked out his match with the Great Muta? He gets unmasked and basically evolves into a new character and scares the piss out of Muta. It's a classic! My current top 5 wrestlers right now would have to be (in no specific order) - Ricochet/Prince Puma - Aleister Black - Pentagon Jr. - El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jr. - and Max Moon for no real reason except it's Max Fucking Moon.
I haven't had a chance to watch that video yet haha! I think the only wrestler on your list I know is Ricochet. He's amazing! I recently saw the match of him and Will Ospreay, it was really entertaining
I hope folks here caught the G-1 Special in San Fran last night! It aired live on AXS Tv and was an absolute BEAST of an event! Let's talk about it! What did you enjoy? What did you hate?? The highlight, for me, was the Dragon Lee and Hiromu match. They decimated eachother and it was insane. Apparently Hiromu's neck was actually broken during that match. Ouch!
Really sad about Hiromu, I really hope he can make a full recovery. My favourite wrestler next to Kenny. I actually can't bring myself to watch the match once I heard about the injury. I'll watch the show eventually but I usually check out after Dominion and wait for G1 to get started proper.
any fans of Stardom, Oedo Tai, in particular? I am not a fan of WWE but they have been snatching up some of Stardom's best performers as of late. Kagetsu, Hana Kimura, & Natsu Sumire were stateside for some Ring of Honor shows this year. It is great that Stardom has English subtitles for their international fans. Oedo Tai! Oedo Tai!
Haven't really had the chance to check out Stardom. What's the best way to catch some of their shows and what makes them better than some of the other promotions?
you can see plenty of matches & compilations on YouTube. Stardom has a subscription service that bills you the first of the month regardless of what day you start your sub. It's like NJPW, they have factions so you don't have to be a fan of the individuals, per se. I guess part of the appeal is that Stardom’s shows always include foreigners & they translate content unlike WAVE, sendai, DDT, etc. edit: ok DDT is starting to do some translation for international audiences, good for them. They have a rising star in Konami at the moment who was trained by WWE’s Asuka (Kana), her only protégé to my knowledge. also, this: support indys!
Saw a post from Hiromu, it was just a photo.of Darrell holding a handwritten sign saying something like "I'm fine, thank you" and a drawing of Hiromu with his head flying off haha! Thought it was amazing, for the drawing and the incredibly vague update. I also.heard about his injury before watching the match and cringed in antici.....pation. I heard Dragon Lee had been in like 3 or 4 matches in 24hrs leading up to that match.. I've wondered and worried often about the safety of some of the wrestlers after seeing things like being the elite and realizing they traveled all day to run straight into a match. This seems like a worst case scenario, for that. I was glad to see that "I'm fine" update though. Anyone been keeping up with the G1? I've been watching bits and pieces. That Kenny and Naito match was great! I also live Okada's current attitude now that the pressure of being the champ is off! "Scooby doobie Doo" almost killed me!
I don't know how many of you here are familiar with CMLL or AAA or just lucha libre in general, but I asked this question on the wrestling SubReddit and figured I'd ask here as well: "Would it be fair to call Pentagon Jr. (aka Penta el 0M, aka Pentagon Dark, etc etc...) the Kenny Omega of Lucha Libre?" I feel like they're nearly identical when it comes to social media presence and total all around hype. Also I'm realizing how much fun it would be to have a pro-wrestling viewing party at some point to coincide with toys or whatever. Just have an all around good time. BYOB or some beer supplied, hang out and watch some wrasslin' on a huge screen and chat about toys or whatever. Then again I've been chatting/thinking about how to throw just a general "toy & beer" casual hangout sesh sometime and it's killing me because I live in New Hampshire. AKA Nowhere near really any other toy folk.
"new" NJPW on AXS TV in 20 minutes if anyone here has Sling. AXS is a couple months behind schedule-wise but hey what the heck.
here is a decent Stardom match between Kagetsu of Odeo Tai vs Mayu Iwatani from last year, sorry it is not subtitled. highlights include the Oedo Tai dance for the first 3 minutes w/ Hana's middle finger salute at 2:45 6:30 Mayu dorking it up 9:45 Oedo Tai being Oedo Tai 10:55 breath weapon 11:30 Mayu takes a shower 12:35 Kagetsu gets the boot 15:30 Mayu hanging out 16:25 promotion owner Rossy in the crowd 20:25 Hana Kimura turns the tables 21:15 Kagetsu 450 splash 22:25 the bridge is over overall, it's a solid 15 minute match, lemme know if you disagree.
anyone watch lucha underground? former Stardom champion & soon to be WWE jobber to the stars Io Shirai
a friend of my girlfriend ordered the PPV so we'll be watching with them. ALSO, in other news, I just found out today that the Blackcraft clothing brand has their own Wrestling promotion. I'm serious. It's really interesting.
