Vintage 'Shattaline' egg paper weights. The company was best known for making lamps. I bought this lot for £2 at a boot-sale. I would estimate they are worth around £10 each. One of the dark green ones is a bit of a reject (at the back in my photo), so maybe QC was not a high priority. http://www.weydonian.net/shattaline/5_products.html
Yeah, maybe 3 or maybe 6. I cant remember. I have another one i bought years ago at another boot sale. I'm pretty sure someone was selling a set on the sales thread not that long ago!
it's from a set called utlra dinosaurs: and the one you have is a pachi verison of beacon: (bullmark version)
Charity shop find for a quid. Tonka Powered Scrambler 1971 Made in Japan The gear system needs looking at. Its fixable. Still runs free without it.
Nice finds as always, Moog. I did those Shattaline eggs, I would love to come across that table at a flea market/car boot someday. Excellent choice of Ultra Dino too, one of my favs, and a line I truly still enjoy, as easy as they are to come by, they don't seem to get enough respect for the pachi wonders they are.
@ultrakaiju Yeah, I'd love to find more of those ultra dino's but its not the sort of thing i see out and about very often. Same for the Shattaline stuff. The 'crushed ice' Shattaline plastic process was discovered by a retired Army Major and his company was around for about 10 years. The biggest thing I've seen made from it is a coffee table. It looks great but I would expect they would be really rare and expensive nowadays. I was very lucky to find those eggs. The most common Shattaline stuff seems to be Lamp bases.
1978 (Made in Britain) Superman 'Bagatelle'. £5 in a charity shop. 22" x 10". Almost perfect condition, i got rid of all scratches on the front by using furniture polish. Furniture polish is great for cleaning up certain plastics and removing adhesives from plastics as well (my top-tip of the day). The game still plays real nice!
Very cool Moog, and thanks for the tip. Was there a particular type, i.e. do you know what the chemicals were (even if the brand might not be the same)? Was it abrasive at all? I have never heard of this tip, but am now really interested in trying it out. A great pointer for the vintage 'cleaning' discussion, too! Cheers
Ive never noticed a particular brand being any better than others. Anything like 'Mr Sheen' or 'Pledge' works fine. Its not abrasive at all. I used to use it back in the day to get stubborn adhesive off CD cases when the price sticker was taken off. If the glue is particularly stubborn you can spray the polish on it and leave it for a while, this usually works. if there is a lot of adhesive to get rid of it will sometimes take a few tries with the polish. It works best on non-porous plastics of course. The bagatelle front was heavily scratched but i just sprayed the polish on and used multiple little bunches of toilet paper to wipe/polish it off. After i did that it looked brand new, with no scratches visible at all.
Super Sentai strap for a quid at a boot sale. No idea what the teams name is, there are so many of them. Yes - that is a grilled fish hanging from the top left of the charm!
Peace Sentai Hiroshiman Vs the Mysterious Daikaijyu Kakira... You can see the bomb dome in the background. It seems to be a dangler which was sold at stores in Hiroshima (also in candy packs). I don't think it's an actual live series and have no idea if it is an official product from the city of Hiroshima or prefecture. I would rather think it's an opportunity product to amuse visitors with its somehow bad taste.
Mate, thanks very much. I didn't even notice the Bomb Dome in the background. I've actually visited there and the Peace Memorial Park / Museum, so that is very interesting to me.
Mr Smash walking robot toy by Marx 1976 Got this very cheap at a vintage flea market, probably because the back of his head is a bit melted and he's missing an antenna (and the sticker on his chest that says 'for mash get smash'). The clockwork mechanism still works. These adverts ran from late 70's to early 80's so i remember them from when i was a nipper.
I cant remember what vintage series of toys this alien fellow is from, the line has spacemen in various suits. 50p at a flea market.
My dad bought this for me last week when he was on holiday in Scotland. It was in a huge charity shop on a trading estate apparently. Mid-80's Pocketeer. Really good condition for its age. I had a bunch of these when i was a kid but i'm sure i didn't have this one.
Various boot sale bargains. The Kinnikuman was the only one in the box. About 2" high Anyone recognise this awesome Boglin toy? Its missing the Rip Cord. About 6" long. I'm not sure if its a bootleg or not, it doesn't have any makers marks.
Catching up here, but great finds as always Moog. The Mr. Smash is hilarious, I never knew anything about them, but would have been hard-pressed to pass it up all the same. The robot-changer game is great too, the bilingual aspect of the label makes me wonder if this was somehow [also] for the Canadian market? I have seen triple language (tri-logo) stuff before, but seldom just French and English. The last fella is actually from the '80s Ghostbusters line, and is the Pull Speed Ahead ghost (har-har - what can you say, it was the '80s! ). Here he is packaged, and with his zip-pull (the rage back then), so you can get an idea of what it looked like:
