Ripple is still a thing? I remember signing up when it first launched and got some free XRP. But it's been so long, and I never heard anything about it, that I lost the password to my wallet.

$8k! i wish it were easier to buy up here in canada.
when i briefly looked into it, it sounded like a lot of hoops to jump thru.

@noeleaser any recommendations of a relatively easy way to sell BTC?
4 years ago I dabbled very lightly in that realm... but everything once learned has long since been forgotten. Long story short there's a (very slim) chance I may have a fraction of 1 coin still squirrelled away somewhere.

Never seemed worth the time/effort to relearn all that jazz & do something with it (in the remote chance it's still there & I can remember how to access), but with the crazy spike in value as of late, it seems foolish not to try.

I don’t really know how you could sell it. I haven’t even learned about that yet considering I’m in it for the long haul. You may want to check to see if there’s a bitcoin ATM that allows cash withdrawals in your area: https://coinatmradar.com/blog/how-to-sell-bitcoins-using-bitcoin-atm/

I would just hold on to it, the price is hopefully just going to keep going up!

Really kicking myself for dragging my cold feet on this - BTC up to $9600!! So I'm finally completing my account registration. But I think I'm going to start out with a purchase of Litecoin.

A common theme I've seen in everything I've read is to not store your currencies on Coinbase (or whatever market you're using for purchases), but to transfer them to a wallet only you have the keys to (though I don't really see how there's much difference, as the keys have to be created/stored electronically if you're using a software wallet). What do you guys use? Is it as simple as sending your BTC from your Coinbase account to a new wallet address, and that's all there is to securing your BTC?

    Anyone using a hardware wallet?

Anyone buy through GDAX rather than the Coinbase site? I'm thinking that's how I'll place my first order.

I just bought a Ledger Nano S. They're on sale for Back Friday: https://www.ledgerwallet.com/products/ledger-nano-s

From what I understand, you aren't in control of your currency unless you have your private keys in your possession..

Let me know your thoughts on that Ledger when you get it! I was checking it out the other day. Seems like the best option, but don't know if I wanna spend the $50. Maybe after I've made a few BTC/LTC purchases...

so what would you recommend for purchasing? Coinbase? i downloaded it to at least see the fluctuation, yet no purchases yet, something semed odd that it was the sponsored link and first on the list when i googled... that DCON dip looked like a good time to buy in.

I'm so pissed that I didn't buy during that DCON dip.. (lol.. Great name for it!)
Coinbase is what most noobs like myself use to purchase. (Here's my referral link, we'll both get $10 when you spend $100: https://www.coinbase.com/join/59d63fbfa4c41500b4e3cf69) GDAX is another exchange which is run by Coinbase but the fees are cheaper (it's definitely not as easy to use as Coinbase..)

You guys should check out the Bad Crypto Podcast, it's like Crypto Currency 101. It's a great resource: http://badcryptopodcast.com/

My gf uses gdax so she can put in buy prices if dips happen. Gdax is connected direct to Coinbase I believe.

Going to check out the ledger wallet. Besides Ripple we are looking at IOTA for our next purchase. These are both below a dollar with expected 5x jumps the next year and could have the same growth as bitcoin while bitcoin always has a chance of bursting its bubble due to size and speed limitations.

With IOTA we want to put it on an external wallet because the only exchange seems to be in Asia. You don't want your crypto on an exchange but wallets should be (?) safe.

Thanks for the rec on the Bad Crypto Podcast! Just started listening - hope it'll help me understand some of the more technical side of cryptocurrencies. Wish I had come across it earlier, as it may have helped ease my mind about Coinbase and got me in earlier.

That podcast is like my bible lately..

They're talking about having some kind of convention/meetup next year in Denver!

Maybe we'll all be millionaires by then.. ;)

Do they get tighter as they produce more episodes? I've just listened to the first 3 and I'm starting to tune out because there's so little actual info in each episode. They repeat their disclaimer that they're not financial advisers too often, talk about all their various social media outlets multiple times per episode, banter about nothing, etc, etc. I'm hoping that they tighten up the content, give a single disclaimer at the beginning of each episode, and plug their various media outlets once rather than multiple times throughout the entire show - it's not radio, where people are "just tuning in". These shows could be 10m, rather than 30m+.

Also, waiting for my deposit to hit my CB/GDAX account is killing me! LOL! And yes, hopefully we're all millionaires next year! ;)

Ugh...I jumped ahead to listen to the most recent episode and they still rarely give any real info on cryptocurrency. Tons of filler, a little general banter about crypto, but no real information or anything that means something. :|

Wow - prices across the big three hit huge records, and are now dipping back down. Just sitting on the sidelines waiting for my deposit to go through...would really like to be able to buy on this dip.

It also almost went down by that much in a matter of hours today! When I woke up it was around $11,400 and just a bit ago it was at $8,600!

I've heard that crypto currency organizations/companies are taking steps to address this.. The article actually states it..

"There are already several efforts underway to reform how the bitcoin network processes transactions, with the hope that it’ll one day require less electricity to make new coins. "

    Solar and wind power FTW!

    BTW, Bitcoin is OVER $12K!!
