Actually heard this on a fairly popular radio station this afternoon. ALSO, if you watch NXT, they use this song now. Way to go, GHOST. I'm legitimately impressed. I need to see these guys again for sure.
Oh shit that's awesome. Now I counter your counter with these two beauties. Immortal's "Beyond the North Waves" always manages to put me in a good mood no matter how shit of a day it's been. Happy Friday all!
Relevant. http://trvebrewing.com/ A brewing company out of CO that's dedicated to delicious beer and metal. \m/
^ Beer goes well with anything, metal seems like a natural fit. I know of beers released by Iron Maiden, At The Gates, and Megadeth. There is also a monthly column in Decibel dedicated to brewing, and the first annual Beerfest event is happening this year sometime with a bunch of pretty big groups playing. I happen to be drinking a Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA right now while listening to Ozzy, so I guess i'm on board.
I don't drink but I do collect pig destroyer anything and three flyods did a beer with them. As for Trve they are awesome people my buddy is a rep for ballast point and he brought me back a empty bottle of there's and an amazing print by Samuel Lee Turner who did the art for the newest Khemmis record.
Word of warning: Ghost has changed A LOT since their first album. I'm not sure how many Papa Emeritus' (Emeritii?) there have been, but I've seen them 3* times and I think each time it was a different guy...and they've gotten steadily worse. The last one felt like a Cab Calloway in Vegas Residency version - fucking awful. *I would have only seen them once, but after I went to their first tour with a friend my wife started to dig them and liked the photos I took, so the next time they came to town she wanted to go...and because she liked that show she wanted to go again when they came through on their 3rd tour, which we both agreed was AWFUL. But Purson opened, so it wasn't a total waste.
Go check out Havok if they swing through your town. Unfortunately when they come to Portland they're playing at a club I refuse to go back to, otherwise I'd be seeing them for my 3rd time.
Seriously? I saw them at the Royale in Boston a few years back when Opus Eponymous was still their BIG album. They put on a great show and I'll forever remember it. A shame they've apparently gotten steadily worse, which i personally find hard to believe. I love their most recent album. Mummy Dust is a personal favorite. I think I'll have to go see them again just so I can get my own two cents in. Also, I don't believe their lead singer has changed. There have been 3 or 4 Papas now, but the singer under the mask has remained. Unless of course they've secretly gotten guest vocalists in for shows without telling anyone like what they did with Dave Grohl last year I think.
Maybe Papa hasn't changed but the last time I saw them he looked very short, whereas the first and second time I saw them he looked much taller. Musically the band isn't worse, but their show has gone from dark & satanic with tongue firmly planted in cheek (Opus Eponymous), to satanic hep cats swinging in Las Vegas (Meliora?). This is a band BUILT on image. They went from this: To this: They wear spats now!
I enjoy Ghost. I never found them to be metal, instead 100% a pop band. Let's face it, if you're nominated for a US Grammy Award, even in the hard rock or metal category, you're about as metal as Scissor Sisters... Feel free to argue with me the so-called metal merits of Baroness' song Shock Me. 100% pop. Papa is the same (Tobias Forge), just a new getup. Ghost are nothing more than SubVision with some distorted guitars and catchy riffs. But again, I can be a sucker for a catchy pop song and they don't disappoint in that sense. Still trying to figure out the post-relation with Rise Above. I know the debut was released on that label, but they continue to give props to them as well as bring label supports with them on tour. Wondering if any members from Cathedral are in the band... Lee Dorian clearly isn't in the band, as his vox would be completely noticeable. Maybe just an extension to their agreement buy out or something. Carry on
i think I'm going to end up going back to that terrible club when havok comes to town their new album is too good. can't thank you enough for turning me on to these dudes. anyone who likes some good thrash should really give their new album, which just dropped today, a listen. Actually, give all of their albums a listen!
After hearing their new songs I was reconsidering going to see them - I think I'd probably cave if it were on a weekend. I need to go pick up the album today!
I picked up Havok's new album this weekend. Not nearly as good as Time Is Up. The first song, F.P.C., is a hot mess. I hate their new bass player. Time Is Up: https://candlelightrecordsuk.bandcamp.com/album/time-is-up
