And since these two didn't fit: A classic. This song is what really got me into electronic music in the first place. Let's crank the clock back further!
great taste, guys! quite a bit of stuff i haven't heard of. now that's sharing! @hellointerloper really nice to know what got everyone into electronic music!
I got into electronic stuff through Psywarfare, project of Dwid Hellion of Integrity. And then Then there was Drukqs.
DMX Krew / Ed Upton I've been a fan of this guy for a long time. He does a lot of retro 80's/early 90's style electronic music. His label 'Breakin' Records' is worth checking out, too . . . .
GESCOM (Autechre 'umbrella project') Key Nell 1 (and yes, the packaging for the CD was some bubble wrap - i have it at home) AUTECHRE - Eggshell
Tok Tok & Soffy O - Missy Queen's Gonna Die (Original Mix) Dot Allison - Substance (Felix da Housecat Remix)
^ DMX Krew's still around, right? And Incunabula is easily a favourite one from Autechre. Not many people recognise Gescom but they're tops!
Yes he is, but i prefer his early stuff to be honest. I complained via email to him once because his first album was out of print on cd and i was having a hard time tracking it down. He was very gracious, and patiently explained that he could only afford to release a limited run of cd's. He suggested a few mail order shops and one of them had a copy! I think one of the first 'Ambient' albums i fully embraced from the Techno/Rave school was 'Artificial Intelligence' by Warp Records 1992. Its considered a ground-breaking series.
'Expert Knob Twiddlers' Mike & Rich A quirky little classic album that had a 20th anniversary re-issue last year . . . which made me feel old.
^ Expert Knob Twiddlers! I've always heard of this one but never got to listening to it till last year. Not much has changed and that's the good part of it
Biosphere Cloudwalker Golden Girls - Kinetic (David Morley Remix) Sequential - The Mission (Live From The Outer Zone) Barbarella - Barbarella (Irresistible Force Remix) Earth Leakage Trip - The Awakening
You couldn't go wrong with warp, RS & rising high at the time. I caught most of the acts around then at the megadog & herbal tea party events at the academy, the hacienda used to run some great electronic nights too.
Totally, i couldn't agree more. I saw Mixmaster Morris do a set in the chill-out tent at Tribal Gathering, he was great. There is a line of R&S compilation CDs called 'Vintage R&S' that i still love. Also the series called 'Reactivate' by React . . . . The 'World Techno Tribe' CD released by Universe is still awesome, too.
