I had the blue for years, while the grey is new. Both are so good together. Should've bought another sooner.

The blue and grey 'shorts' MHs are pretty interesting since they show the progression of the paint masks during that time. The last one would be the one with the fully-masked cap.

I was not a RxH fan when I joined the board Fedhai, after collecting Atom A and looking at Mori's stuff for a few years and hanging out on the board I'm a huge fan.

He's just so damn prolific it scares me to collect RxH. It's a pretty deep rabbit hole to fall in.

Those Gatchigons and Shinto-sans in particular are two of the best older sculpts, The Shinto-san is pure sofubi perfection.

@Michael Beverage With the time spent on the forum I've learn to appreciate some things that I detested the first time and maybe I would change my mind about RXH but what bothers me is that these characters lack of life. It's too cold for me. It misses the Japanese touch that I find in the makers that I love, these toys feels too western for me (which is ironic for a Japanese maker). I like that my toys look like toys and not to art-toys. But I appreciate his approach and the care that he brings to his pieces as well as his personal touch which makes that his toys are immediately identifiable. You really feel the passion behind his work. But maybe I would see his work differently later and that I would start to appreciate.

@Fedhai I can see that and totally get what you are saying, there are many makers I still like more than RXH for that very reason. The sheer diversity of sculpts and quality of the paint jobs are really what keep me interested in RxH. And there is always something new to look at with Mori's crazy output.

Anyway you have superb taste for a new board member regardless. ;)

I respectfully disagree. I think RxH has more heart and life than most other toy makers, that is why Mori is so respected and loved.

But the toys you collect are mainly representing classic Kaiju and Yokai - so obviously they look 100% Japanese. I suppose it depends on how you define 'art toys'. I personally see very little similarity between RxH and most toys that would be defined as that.

RxH output has always been original sculpts from his own designs, based on whatever he has been influenced by. So yes, there is some influence from outside of Japan (his love of TMNT is a good example) but other than that i feel they are very Japanese in essence. His best selling toy will probably always be the Maneki Neko dont forget . . .

For example, toys from RxH that have a very Japanese flavour:
Mini Daruma, Fortune Cat (Maneki Neko), Eel Cat of Shiba Mata, Night Train Adios, Fortune God, Mini Fortune God, Mini Fortune Ashura, Fairy Bero Bero, Jinmen-ken Saburo & Goro, Shinto-san, Mini Sumo, Gowan Jujin CycloMagnon, Gatchigon etc etc

Of course, its all a matter of opinion - i just wanted to offer a different one to yours.

Has he ever put out a book of his sketches? They pop up occasionally on his IG feed.
It's pretty great how the drawings translate into sculpture so well.

When I speak of "life" I speak mainly of expressiveness, I find that his characters are cold and do not express much (especially his "humanoids", in small and large size). But it is more a matter of taste than a critique of his work. Have rarely seen the eyes of his characters and this adds to the cold side. Moreover I find his sculptures too detailed and too "realist". But again the reasons why I'm not fan of his work are the same ones that make others love his creations.

I also like his minis series like manekis nekos, sumos, tanukis etc ... I have the Fairy Bero Bero in both colors and love them. I do not reject everything from his work and again I respect a lot what he does. It's just that his share of creations "realistic" does not speak to me. It's hard to explain why you like something or not, especially that I struggle to express myself and write in English (thanks google traduction). It's more a question of taste and feeling than an objective criticism.

Of course ! Anyway I would never vex with anyone about toys (unless he criticizes U.S.TOYS).

Haha, indeed. We can't collect everything anyway, where would we put it all. That's one of the many reasons Sofubi is so cool to collect, there is a lot of variety. Something for everyone!
