I think from his blog post, he may not have had involvement in this. I'm sure he has sold things behind the scenes to high rollers. Maybe one of them off loaded some stuff. Did any of these actually sell? I looked at the auctions about 9 hours before they ended and there wasn't a single bid. Then I didn't check again.

    That is a bid odd if so, but I suppose it makes a bit more sense too. Didn't seem like a Hirota-organised sale, but one never knows. I suppose though, if you are going to be outed as flipping all your toys, might as well go all in! {not that I am saying this is necessarily what happened either, could well be someone was just getting out of collecting, and decided to get rid of them in the fastest, easiest way for them}

Yeah I don't know and am theorizing that based off of shitty Google translation on what seems like a cryptic post.

I don't see what the confusion is. It was a regular Mandarake auction. Mandaraka buys from flippers, or directly off YJA themselves, and resells them either at their stores or at these auctions. No money went to, nor was it organized by, hxs.

Good luck everyone! Sure is interesting that Hirota asked for IG user names for this lotto.

As if there isnt already a flurry of Hirota, hxs, itamu, (insert Brutal Monster), hashtags already on IG, just wait.

Now that the IG crew knows he'll be watching (assumed..), I am sure the frequency will increase ten fold.

It seems to anyways right before a lottery, no matter the drop.

A few makers have adopted doing this. It's a way to check someone out before committing to the sale. It's prooving to cut down on the number of lottery poachers already, and with high profile artists - that can cut out a lot of fat, actually improving your chances. It doesn't affect how many fans he has on Instagram.

It's a good move. I do it and its so you can see who is who. The odds are if you have some toy images you can see if the person is an actual toy collector. If they have nothing or tons of pics of toys that say for sale you know to stay clear.

Right on. Good for him for trying to tighten down on the flipping noise.

Does it red-flag for you if the instagram is private? :( I've been really concerned about this when it comes to lotteries that request my username, as I had to make my instagram private a month or two ago at attorney's request
(litigation against a former home contractor during our reno)
and I don't want that fact to squick out toy designers :/

Hmm, while I can certainly appreciate the effort (in as much as is possible) to further curb flipping purchases, I am not sure I like how this seems for people [yes, myself included] who do not have an IG account. Would that suggest, even if not necessarily true, a ... reluctancy ... to sell to me if I was one of the profiles 'reviewed' during the lottery pull, in favour of someone else who has an IG account and posts toy pics? I am not saying this is true but the mere suggestion of it is troubling. And, were I now to start an IG account, in order to enter the lottery, I would still be dismissed because I hadn't been posting said photos regularly? I mean, yeah, I like this attempt for what it is trying to do, but I do hope that you can also see how it sort of has a flavour of discrimination, in this case based on social media presence, which I am definitely not a fan of. I would like any entry to a lottery contest be fair and equal, and this is making it seem like it might not be the case - as much as there are positives to be taken away.

I've noticed a few manufacturers requesting this info but fail to see how 'useful' it is!

Having a private account means they are all S.O.L. unless they request access, and with only sporadic toy pics scattered amongst all the other random crap they'd be sadly disappointed anyways.

Wouldn't it be more logical for the flippers/traders/dealers/chancers to show reams of nuthin' but toys (yaaaaawn!) to create the illusion of collecting,. Not necessarily marked 'For Sale' but in effect using it as a storefront to generate 'WANT's' , private offers and buying requests?

    Social media schmedia!

I noticed that once the IG signal flare went up, some people adopted the new Itamu poster as their profile pic, some even begging the HSK to "pick me!! pick me!! please!!!!" (prayer hands, stars..)

Some even threw God into the mix with their pleas.

    That shit made me

God doesn't give a shit about your toy and if you get it or not. I am probably 150% right on that too. 8)

I don't collect any HxS, nor do I have the desire to. I do admire his works, and I love peepin' photos in this thread, but I also recently noticed the pleading of entrants' cases for wanting to win, some even saying *why* they should win. It's one thing to be hopeful on lottos, we all are. But begging and outright saying "pick me" is a little weird and desperate to me, but maybe I'm makin' it out to be more in my head than I should?

I do think the Instagram profiling could be beneficial, but as someone else pointed out, it's easy to fake the funk and pull the veil over artist's eyes. I feel like I've seen it happen a bit as of late. I guess there really is no fool proof way of eliminating every sketchy person, sans private sales to the same loyal base, which even I wouldn't condemn artists for doing, and sometimes even condone and encourage. But it is nice to still see a solid mixture of new and old wins!

This board has propagated so many false statements, it is a
wonder at times that reality has got any room to breathe

How about talking about toys instead of moralistic opinions?

Maybe HXS asked for IG accounts to make a toy offer via IG?

I'd doubt highly that Hirota scans the depths of the internet to
find "evildoers" but instead works 5 days out of 7 on his toys

Here we are again with an entire page of comments!

Here let's talk about how close to the concept drawing the actual toy is:

I am cool with folks over-extending themselves and buying this in the after markets.
I like some HxS but this does nothing for me, fortunately.

I don't see how does having an instagram account prevent flipping. The flippers do not have to post toys they are flipping in instagram anyway. And those with the 'HxS pick me' post are hilarious at best.

(IMO) Yeah man,. He probably doesn't. *( i am a believer and a Christian, if you aren't good times. to each his own. again that comment was my opinion.) I highly doubt he says, oh..so and so is begging for that new hxs and calling out to me to help. Imma hook it up.

At least it help to prevent multiple entry. Checking paypal account with instagram that show you are a real collector.
I thinks it's help hirota/artist to decide. IMO.....

Hirota has mastered sculpting things to scale. I was really impressed when he started taking the his full size figures and down scaled them into the mini's. He even went to the trouble of re-carving one of the aliens so it was a 1/2 inch taller?!!

I had the honor of meeting him last year and he is very into what he does.

We talked about King Kong and about the mini dolls he makes.

He said of all his stuff the mini were his personal favorites.

Can't argue with that. The detail in the minis is great. I really like that they still have some heft to them. They feel really sturdy, so there is a lot of playability. It's pretty crazy what a difference it made adjusting the size of that alien figure. The one from the Mr. X set is one of my favorite toys.

FYI Hiroata asks u tell him if uve entered many times and never won. So the pleas are basically his fault
