I honestly wish that I didn't see it, but unfortunately the stupid Angry Birds phenomenon has become so ubiquitous with its inane marketing everywhere.

A cute fellow though, Moog. (Please do let the above ruin it for you.)

Here's a gift from my bestie~ she knows me well. It's a charming blow-mold doll, with a hard plastic hair helmet and 3 faces from which to choose as you rotate the inner head. U.D.Co.Inc. 1973 Hong Kong.

That's such a perfect gift, Rei. The third face completes the trifecta wonderfully. It's great that she has a stamp too, so you can check out her history if you are ever inclined. She is going to fit right in with your other toys, man.

I was looking at some of the other images of the character and it actually struck me as a bit phallic

Whatever it is, it's certainly unique.

Bought these two a few weeks apart at boot-sales. I hardly ever see Barbapapa stuff so that was unusual . . .
    50p each. Made by Kodansha.

They kind of resemble Schmoo. Except Scmoo had legs and no arms and these guys have arms and no legs.

I guess if a Barbapapa and a Schmoo ever got together it would be a Jack Sprat type of situation.

Those Takoyaki figures are really neat! Makes me wish I had an octopus belt.

Also can anyone here explain to me Japan's apparent interest in kewpie dolls? I saw many posted on Instagram, both original and sofubi remakes.

I think my absolute favorite thing about Japan, besides their food, is their genius marketing.

Yep, their design esthetic is the best in the world . . . man, do they know how to shift product and start trends. Reinvent stuff.

Some of the best memories of my one trip to Japan, involve eating and buying food. Man, the O-nigiri i bought from a 7-11 a few early mornings in Kyoto. Just the most amazing taste experience, conveniently bought from a chiller in a corner shop. I went for the more expensive ones with the fatty part of the tuna.

They are just triangles or balls of rice with a filling, wrapped in seaweed. I could live on the damn things . . . .

Shit, I really want to go back to Japan someday. Its just so expensive.

Yeah I have price alerts posted to my email every once in awhile for a Japan trip. Unfortunately the only way to get a semi-reasonable flight time is to throw down $1,000+ on a ticket. Otherwise $750 will nab you a 30 hour flight....and that's a mucho no bueno. I'll just have to stick with the Japan pavilion in Epcot for now.

^^ Love this vintage cutie, @rattanicus what is she from?

Here's one i've never seen before. I looked him up and he's from a small run toy line called 'Creepy Kids' 1986.
There were four of them, i found a photo of the back of a carded one.
