while people do do this with paint.. these are not... more like a thin film floated on top of water, sprayed with adhesive and as the item goes through, it wraps around whatever object. hydrographics.
Wow! I can see how it works but I can't quite "wrap" my head around how it exactly works.. Amazing stuff! So I guess the watercolour patterns will be the same (it's basically a lamination - possibly ends up a little warped) just random placement of the film on these Bearbricks. Still pretty cool
Great day! New package came in. I assume TAG added the bubble wrap. Just had to take some pics with the mother ship! Unfortunately, you have to take all the accessories off to fit it in.
Superb Myles! Congratulations on landing those wonderful fellas, and thank you so much for taking the time to photograph them in their 'big bod.' Sorry you had to remove all their bits, but it was well worth it. I love it! I am really wishing I could have gone in on these at the time, but I am enjoying your guys' photos immensely.
Thanks, all. These are really superb. So much fun. And they come with a great booklet containing a comic strip and vintage advertising for all of the toys in the Astro-Mu line (including the minis, vehicles, play mats, etc.). Can't wait to get the other four! Good to know. I am really appreciating the effort Medicom put into these.
I'm guessing that there's no record with the reissues (I don't see one). Medicom should have gone the distance and included a USB Flash stick with the music. Would have been cool, and 512MB or 1GB sticks are so cheap in bulk.
Not a complaint, just would have been icing to bring the soundtrack into the 21st century as MP3 or something especially as no one seems to have turntables these days. Picked mine up this morning at the post office. Even the Medicom packaging is sweet despite not resembling the original packaging.
do any retailers still have the AM5's? I had to strictly save any extra money I had when they were released...
@liquidsky I think that is probably hoping for a bit much, considering how all out they already went with the packaging, but no worries, Skullbrain has you covered as always! Courtesy of (and with much thanks!) to @RudeBeast, the virtual flexidisc/sonosheet can be yours to enjoy:
Coming soon to a theater far away from you: Black vinyl Medicom x Sofvilife Pretty Goji, sold exclusively through the TOHO Cinemas chain.
Looks very cool, if a bit too 'glossy' looking for me in the above (I know, this is an odd complaint). I imagine it is not so bad in person, but somehow these figures with high lustre seem to be designed to be too 'art-toy' for my personal tastes I think it is, losing that feel of being a genuine thing to play with. I'll take mine without shellac please! Probably more so because it is black and silver I would say; and again, these are promotional photos of mockups that have no doubt been diddled with to some extent. But it has always been such a wonderful sculpt, and I like that you can sort of get that classic '54 Goji vibe from having a B&W fellow straight off the screen. Alas, another Pretty Godzilla that will probably be very difficult to chase. (but that is not to say I won't try!) Thanks D!
Great video. The thought of that process being used on a the hand of a 2" 100% Be@rbrick has me scratching my head!
Not "new" per se, but I just randomly discovered a BUNCH of their Marvel and DC hero figures are selling for really low prices on Amazon. Not sure if it's a weird promo or what the reason, but supplies do seem limited. Once you're logged into Amazon, searching "Medicom hero sofubi" should pull em all up.
When I 1st saw this I was half awake, hands down favorite version of Pretty Goji- next to the brown version. Only version I ever landed is the original Blue- it's a beast! Can't help but think how cool would the concept Sofvilife Hedorah be on black vinyl with same paints?
Which blue? Just curious. This guy? He always looks good! Love to find one on any colorway some day. Are there many variant of their 'traditional' giant Smoggy? This Medicom one wouldn't look too bad with the new Pretty Boy. EDIT: Or is he just a Marmit? I'm finding listings under both. Hmm.
I just took a look at the theatre listings for the Toho-release. Damn, what a time to not be in the area still, two places in the Osaka area! And one in Nagoya (@petitetoilonrouge, are you still there? ) Some locals are going to get pretty luck with this fella. Definitely worthy of a little camp-out/line wait by my books.
I hope i can land that Black one it's really a nice looking doll. I wanted that Hedorah but passed as I thought it looked bland. Aftermarket prices for versions I do like are way to expensive but maybe one day I will find one for a fair price. David, I have the one in your pics with it's arm up next to Mighty. Yeah the concept Hedorah is my favorite doll, I have the clear brown and was thrilled Mr. Sato made the same for Kusogon The articulation at the elbows is great and the size is perfect.
