I've never been to a show like this (being from Aus and all haha) should I be aiming to get their opening night to ensure there are still pieces left?

 

Hey - we are running things a little bit differently this year. Last year was mental having 3 hours for the opening night and burying our heads in our clipboards handling a non-stop rush of sales.

This year we are having an opening preview night on the Friday and then sales will take place starting 12 noon on Saturday the 3rd of September. So the preview on Friday night will just be for people to take everything in, grab some photos etc.

New website is up now - Jason/derphead has been working on it for weeks now and we are so glad to have it finally online. Would be great to hear what Skullbrainers think of it. We have detailed how the event will run on the site as well - I'm interested to hear how it compares to how events are run over in USA at places like TAG etc. I think we managed to make it fair for both locals who can be there for the whole week and visitors who are travelling to Brisbane for the show.

Thanks Jason - we tried to make sure we added some links and examples of their toys for every artist so that people could become familiar and even become fans by the time the show arrives.

BTW a sofubi fighter style game would be crazy.. I wonder if that is what Mark Nagata's secret project is? Apparently whatever it is, it won't be revealed until next year.

The only downside to running an event like this is I can't buy the toys! But it is super rewarding being able to provide these toys for people here in Australia. Watching people's reactions and seeing people take home a toy that they can't stop talking about outweighs missing out on buying some of these pieces.

 

Been working on this illustration for the past month.. Took way longer than I expected to complete. The original plan was to do a bad guys group and a good guys group and have variant versions of the poster/flyer artwork around town. Now that we are about a month away from the event there isn't much time left to draw the good guys group (Gargamel, Bwana, RxH, Cometdebris, etc).. Maybe a self-inflicted ban on TV and sleep will free up some spare time??

 

^Very cool. Has kind of a 70s feel to me for some reason. That might change if you color it.

Gonna print up some of these for us to wear around town in the last couple of weeks before the event. Not sure how much sense it will make to your average non toy collector on the street but hopefully it's get some extra interest in the event from locals

 

Goddammit, why does b i t c h filter to "I FART A LOT"? I mean, we can say fuck-cunt-piss-cock-but-not b i t c h? is this someone's idea of a joke?

And I like that graphic, but it's a little detail intensive to get much recognition from actual passersby. it might get some attention at an outdoor cafe, or whilst waiting for the bus, though.

 

Desperately looking for help to pick up a Koningu at the show. Please pm if possible.

 

Can you not use that language, please? The filtering is being worked on, but you can self filter and find a different wording that doesn't have to offend a whole gender.

I've read the rules and I didn't really see anything regarding cursing. That filter seemed a bit random to me for the reasons I've stated. I don't really view women as being more sensitive to language then man, so I hope you'll understand if I choose defer to a higher authority on this.

This year is another impressive line-up. I'm excited to see pics of what toys land down under. I still visit the video from last years' now & then. It was an excellent turnout of talent, but also a good showcase of variety.
