Minty in bag! Can you please tell me how tall the boot leg version is? I wonder how it compares in height to the "real" tigers. And can you tell me please, is the vinyl thin?

the bootleg is bigger than the mini bullmark version, at about 5-6". similar to popy figures. it's a pretty thin vinyl.

Very nice! Great cleaning too! Do you mind my asking how and what you used to clean him? The lightening bolt looks gold in you last photo, but silver in the previous pic. Is it silver or gold? Will you build a small army of tigers then? They are quite addictive. Nice kittee!

Nice lot of Tiger7s Josh! The variations in these are pretty subtle, so oftentimes you might even overlook them when you see on on its own. It is great to see a lineup of them together like that. Thanks for sharing.

Wowieeee!!! I never knew the bootlegs could vary so much, especially the one with the silver spray, and the first one with the red gloves! Lucky you!!! Thanks for sharing the photo and the info.

And, thanks to Josh's and Brian's inspiration, I have them to thank for my family of Tigers. They really fired my passion for the Standard sized Bullmark action-packed stripey guy :D

Wow, so minty fresh and stunning. Grace. The Bullmark standard size is truly a toy to behold, and I envy you your whole family of them. I know you have put in a heck of a lot of time and money religiously hunting these guys, so I am thrilled to see you have one finally in this excellent condition - and with the backer too! I'd really like to hunt one down for myself eventually, but with the way the vintage market has been going the past while, I think I might just have to be confined to looking at such lovely photos of them. Congrats on your seven of Seven! :) Very well deserved. (and thanks to Brian and Josh for planting that inspirational seed that lead to this mission)

Thanks guys! :D I'm really excited about adopting a gloved Tiger at last. He's beautiful, and looks like he just came out of the factory yesterday :D . Can you even imagine that these used to be mass produced for regular PLAY?! It did take quite some time to adopt the Tigers, but I'm glad I pursued them, since they are more elusive these days. I remember when Super 7 used to stock these Tigers in their Vintage Cases! A very magical store, which made quite an impression on me, when I first walked in to see Kaiju, out of curiosity.

I would love to know what these toys originally sold for, when they were released as actual play things (not collector's toys). Wonder if it's even possible to figure out?

I think we could figure it out ! :D

His peers sold for under 1000¥ and even under 500¥

Kamen Rider standard size sold for 380¥, Giant size for 650¥. Barom 1 standards for 380¥ with removable mask Barom1 for a whopping 700¥

Tiger 7 wouldn't have cost much more I would imagine.

That's an interesting question actually. I know I have combed through many archives of photos with packaged toys, some of which often still have the original price attached, but the Tiger7 being relatively rare, I cannot recall necessarily seeing one for him. I don't doubt it is out there, and we might come across one eventually though. I'll make a note to keep an eye out. I have always been interested in the original prices too, and wondered at things like the standard 350/450 guys, where you would think that shops would have their own random pricing, and this is before the time where I think there would have been any kid of 'suggested retail.' I am sure it probably wasn't universal, and is just used more as a reference, especially with there being just so many small shops in Japan; but then we also have catalogue and print art that often lists pricing - so maybe that was principally for larger chain stores in the cities?

^^^ I'm surprised it ended so high! There is no mention of the stripey Tiger in the auction description, so I thought it might escape the attention of stripey-goodness collectors. I happened to stumble on the listing by accident, but I am rather short on moolah at the moment. Besides, I am told I should stop at a mini army of Seven! If I break the limit of seven, then there's no telling how many I'd bankrupt myself on! :):x:oops::razz:

I am still curious about the brown squished hand puppet. He is really flattened, poor guy!

The brown monster is like a puppet, but I do not have much information of these figures, maybe Steve or Scott know more about this type of toys.
Grace If you ever had to find a new home for any of your Tiger 7, please think of me.:):lol::lol:

    I need a Tiger 7:twisted:

I can remember back in 2013, when Tigers were going for just under $300 (USD), and we thought those prices were outrageous!:x
Okee Dokee Roger, you're on the list, right after Stevie! ;)
...although, in all seriousness, I do have to draw up a will and include disbursements for my collections, yep, including toys!

Haha...my girl and I have been talking about getting a bunch of legal shit in order, including our wills. I'm definitely gonna have to add a separate section to "disburse" my toys properly...!

Was someone paging me? :) Grace, so nice of you to remember about my shared love of the T7. Alas, still elusive as ever, but at the current prices, I can see it being a while to adopt a striped punching pet. That lot was actually pretty great. Sure, a bit of a pile of change to part with in one go, but you do get some decent toys there for your money. I could easily see myself justifying the purchase. That Poseidon from Getter Robo G (Bandai maybe?) looks absolutely stunning; I would just love me one of those fellas too.

So, I don't have that much concrete information to add on the puppet, unfortunately. In appearance, these are very similar to the Masudaya vinyl handpuppets that were released contemporary to the shows (mostly Ultra Q, but some Ultraman characters); which Billiken did some fantastic reissues of that you can pick up fairly easily for a steal still. I have some some quite rare Ultraman Jack figures too, but not sure whether these were licensed or not. As far as am aware though, they [Masudaya] never did a Gomora character in their original lineup. You can see them in this add page that Moog posted in his thread, and some pics of a couple [somewhat monochromatic lineup] of them.

The above though, as probably noted by the extra horn, is a bootleg version of the 'Gomora' character. While technically a pachi character, most of these are pretty evident as being heavily 'influenced' by certain well-known characters; another excellent example is the Miura version. Here is a vintage pachimon card, which possibly provided the source for the original modified extra-horned take on the character.

    from these pachi card listings

Being unlicensed, I don't know who made them exactly, or even how many are out there, but they did do a few different character designs, as well as making boots of the smaller sized 'finger-banger' puppets. I believe that these were likely all made by the same manufacturer, though I have no evidence of course. There is even a matching pachi 'Gomora' in this scale, so you can see the connection:

Thanks to this excellent blog site for lending me this little fellow.

Interestingly, in trying to find some more info on this fellow, I even discovered that you might even been able to still find some Chinese puppet bootlegs of other character toys.

So, that is about all I can add for now. I wish there were more info available on bootleg toys. I am sure inside of Japan there is probably a whole wealth of undiscovered knowledge (to us at any rate) just taken for granted. A great chance at a superb bootleg toy, never even counting the Tiger7 who might just happen to have been included in the lot. A nice snag of toys for someone out there. Thanks for saving and sharing it, Grace!

Bonus edit: for anyone interested in the puppet toys, this blog (which also contains some very excellent original sculpting work on classic characters designs), has some new versions of both sizes done in the same style, including the much controversied Alien Spell (スペル星人) character. Alas, I don't know anything about this guy's work, whether he is professional or hobbyist, but he sure seems to have the touch. Just check out some of the finished product (from here). His work is excellent on these and many other projects. Maybe someone can dig that out with further reading and native language understanding.

Thank you Stevie! Lots of good info there! I appreciate the details, so nice! :D

Chris! Yes of course you are on the list, sorry! So, Stevie, Chris, and Roger. You know, I am quite serious about including toys in my will. They add up to a nice chunk of change. I told my friend not to take my toys to Good Will when I die! :x

Collecting another YJA auction (by request) for a standard sized Bullmark Tiggersebben that ended yesterday. I was very excited to see this guy pop up for sale, and it really got the blood pumping, as most Tiger7s do. He started off at 1円 when I saw him, and had no bids! But sure enough, he climbed up there quickly and at a good pace. Clearly I am not the only one that feels the draw of the toy. And a mighty fine-looking lad he is too. Fair enough, he has got a bit of a unfortunate lean as you can see in the pics, and also suffers from the little bit of odd ageing discolouration on his boots you can sometimes see on the Tiger7s, but heck, I think he remains glorious for all that. Complete with lovely luscious red handsocks. Really nice paint on this one, fairly little wear to note and only a couple places of marks or transfer. I know the off-stance of this one bothers some, rightfully, but I think it gives him a little unique character, especially with that little head tilt. Alas, this fella ended pretty high in the end given his moderate condition issues. (Not that these kittehs aren't worth it, mind.) I would definitely be willing to sacrifice a good pile of my toys, and throw in an organ or two, to make this happen, but I can also appreciate spending that much you'd like to 'invest' in a really nice example. So I couldn't take this guy home this time, but my hunt will continue.

I just have to save lots of pics from this beautiful fella.

As I am think Chris might have said this before, this character seems like such a great candidate for Medicom to do a proper, high-end repro of. Of course I am all for making it a little different to distinguish it from the original Bullmark (a think a sizing up to say just over 30cm would be pretty phenomenal in fact); but really, I would just be so happy to have a Tiger in with my heroes. I would like them to stay true to the original design, and not just do a 'new figure' similar to all the KR characters they are putting out now. With excellent quality, attention to detail, a real homage to the vintage toy would be perfect (along the lines of the Devilmen, Tiger Mask, Astro-Mu, Yonezawa nodders). Done right, I have no hesitation saying it would hugely popular. A pre-order for a slightly larger toy at an elevated pricepoint would probably go a long way to financing some of their other lines. I don't know how the licensing permission for these repros work. The much smaller franchise could be a benefit or a hurdle. Similarly, I do think reflecting on it now though that the connection to a larger company (i.e. Bullmark) could go either way. They would have the help of experience and size, but maybe also they (Bullmark) would not want to release it to anyone, preferring to do it themselves, if at all. I can't actually think of a Bullmark x Medicom collaboration now thinking about it, not to say that it hasn't happened. But they did do the very nice Redman repros themselves, so there is always hope still for that avenue perhaps. Who do we have to talk to to make this happen? Sign me up as consultant!
