If you are going to the Tianzi Mountains, don't forget to consider the nearby areas too...

I actually think the karst towers of China are equally breathtaking, so you might consider visiting Wulong Karst and the surronding areas as well? ;)

    Reminders of cold!

This would be an interesting place to visit, if it wasn't so difficult to get to....

One of my favorite true horror stories (read the book when I was sea faring around the Aleutians a long time ago!)

Race for the Poles, Robert Falcon Scott vs. Roald Amundsen (1911)

Another gripping story of the frigid cold...

*Scott was 11 miles from a major food cache, that would have possibly saved them. The remains of that cache was discovered in 1986, and displayed in a Christchurch museum

*by comparison, you can see just how close Shackleton got to the South Pole (just 112 statute miles, 180 km)--this was his 1908-1909 attempt (not the same as the Endurance Expedition, which took place in 1914)

Here is the food cache they found and put in a museum...

Thank you for all the amazing posts!

I watched this on local (free and crystal clear) digital antenna reception last night.

I liked the part at the end where it shows the date
because I looked at the date on my computer
    and said that was today!

The Patia Davis post was really excellent.

This show about the pneumatic tire and the Rupert's Drop also had me talking out loud :o

The first feature-length handpainted movie in history is being made... An ode to one of art's greatest and most misunderstood painters, Vincent Van Gogh.

Every frame is a single oil painting. There are over 100 artists contributing their time and work to this project. One artist in particular just celebrated 960 hours of painting.

Absolutely mind-blowing, and something to definitely keep an eye on as production continues.

Wasnt that one Ghibli movie about the tiny princess completely made with watercolors? I am of the camp that hates painting in most of its iterations. But this is a film, so not painting and I am looking forward to this.

On that painting note, I saw that Hockney documentary a few days ago and it is stellar, very recommended. The man is just a charmer and its refreshing to see his kind of painting take the spotlight for a second at least.

Also, the Art Institute here in Chicago has a thing on Van Gogh's room with lots of diary notes and works. Great show if you guys happen to be in town.

You're welcome, so glad to hear that the timing of my post worked out.

The signage was on the walls of a little place in Berkley, MI called Coco Fairfield's:
