I would love to but I traded the non red headed version to Scott before this one arrived. I notice the face is a bit different (mouth) and the red headed version doesn't have the gold painted dot on the chest.
Strange, I thought I had posted this guy earlier in the thread, but I guess I overlooked him. Anyhow, here is my booted version: Different sculpt, and a bit of a variation yet again in the paint style than those other two. This is what I love about bootleg collecting, in addition to the amazing quirky sculpts, you always find something new that is slightly different.
That is a great one. I really like how he has got an almost human looking face. The light blue vinyl with the red paint is one of my favourite combinations.
That is a great Iron King boot, always loved him. Another one with a crazily unrelated (but nice) header, yet this one actually features an additional backing insert with relevant artwork. Man, boots are great!
^^^ Ha I finally won that Iron King boot over the weekend after searching for long long time. They don't come up that often then suddenly a few appear. Lost on an auction a few weeks back by only 600 or so yen, then another came up so I made sure to park in it from of my computer and battle it out this time. I think this bootleg is much better looking than the Popy version. Probably really popular because it was on Yuji's book cover.
Sweet, yea i absolutely love him, and one of my first vintage toys. Perfect size and proportions, and the header is so silly. I got mine from a visit to kimono my house a few years back.
Nice! I wish I had a japanese sofubi toy shop near me Speaking of Iron King mini boots, here is an auction I lost over the summer but saved the pic: Familiar header right?
Anyone that I missed who is reading this thread (sorry, I am sure I missed some of the vintage folks), feel free to join up on the flickr group I created for bootlegs and add any guys you may have to it. Doesn't matter if someone's posted the same one already, the more collections the better. http://www.flickr.com/groups/japanesebootlegs/
Dang, that guy is superb too Lixx. First time I have seen him; interesting to see a more traditional 'action toy' stance on one of these guys. Would love of those in a massive size. Interesting to see how certain characters get bootlegged all the time, which others are almost neglected. Maybe trying to play it safe from litigation with some of the licenses, I don't know.
andy I have this guy (although not mint bagged like this one). I dig the white vinyl on this one, brings out the crude design. By chance did you happen to pick this up in a store in Japan or via auction? I know a month or so back there was one of these in a lot of bootleg toys on YJA.
Yeah this is a fun one. I really like the series, plus the "ninja series" by presumably the same maker. Got it at a store. I still don't have a YJA account. BTW, I recently learned Secret Base's white/red mini Mazinger Z's color scheme was based on this bootleg's design. Very cool legacy!
Really nice find. I've been hoping to see one of those turn up, but haven't. Do you have the solid version as well?
I don't recall seeing a solid of this version. Here's a side by side of this one next to the more well known mini (5") bootleg Arashi:
