Okay, this Tarman mask and t-shirt set (art by Wm. Stout!) is rather fucking awesome: http://www.fright-rags.com/teaser/tarman.html The paint design on the mask is just impeccable!
That is a fantastic mask. I wish all the old Ben Cooper masks had been made out of higher quality materials - if they lasted the costumes would still be great. I quite like the graphic on the baseball tee too.
Here's a video you can see more detail of the mask on. It is still thin and fairly rigid plastic, like the originals, just improved a bit on the overall quality. While I think this is better for portability, I have to admit it makes it seem less worth the extreme 'collectable' price for it, compared to a study vinyl mask. Still mighty cool.
I've been wanting to make vacu-formed masks like that, pre printed/painted before being shaped. I wonder how they did that?
Judging by the detail on them and that there are only 50, I imagine that these were painted after forming. Total guess though. If someone were to start a poject to re-make some of the traditional heroes in higher-quality vacuformed plastic, I would totally back that project. Astro, Ultra, Kikaider, Mazinger, Barom-1 - I need 'em all.
It says each mask is handmade then individually painted by the sculptor. I would love to see how they are making the masks themselves.
I wish I could get the baseball T with the mask set instead of the one offered. Pretty cool. Thanks for the heads up.
I used to have so many Fright Rag tees. Great stuff. Tar Man is the most unique and unsettling zombie design ever. Post up some pics if anyone picks this up.
I'm stoked and bummed to see this! I've made these kinds of masks over the past few years and have wanted to expand, but have not had time to do so. I knew someone else would do it, but so what. A full time job and an occasional hobby that turned into a part-time job have kept me from pursuing this. That *should* be changing in a few weeks and you will absolutely see lots of good stuff! Fully painted masks, t-shirts, hand screened boxes with windows! I'll probably miss this Halloween, but I think the people who like these will like them all year long. Tarman was at the top of my list of masks to make - I still will, but maybe not right away. It won't cost $80+ dollars either... Greasebat: I remember your Greasebat masks from a few years ago. Those were great! ultrakaiju: A lot of Ultra and Kamen masks are being made still. Maybe I can fill in some of the gaps thopugh!
