Being a Tsuburaya man, the ol' King of Monsters was never my prime focus, but these massive guys certainly deserve their own thread. Quelle tragédie that one isn't in the vintage section. There are a few 'big guys' out there, between Bullmark, bootlegs, Popy, and Beetland, and that is just off the top of my head. Plus, whatever this guy is. :)

I'll start it off with the only vintage one I have, this Popy beauty. He actually wasn't expensive when I got him, because someone had cut a slot in the front to make a bank out of him - but that doesn't really matter to me, none of my vintage figures are mint, just means they have been played with and loved. It isn't crudely done, and I still really love the figure in spite of it. [Sadly, he didn't come packed full of old Yen though.] Strangely enough, I have seen a few of these Popy Giants 'modified' in the same way. Go figure.

Anyways, here he is in all his great, chunky glory.

Beetland also made a lamp version! Still a really cool toy though.

Ah yep, that is him, thanks. I had only seen the Beetland lamp and telephone rest before. And the Japanese markings and 'Popy' footprint had me fooled. Makes sense now though. I wonder if Beetland just created a cast mold off the original Popy figure, and hence the slightly larger size difference between them.

I've always liked the look of the large Popy and Beetland Godzillas. I'll post the ones I have in my collection, sorry I don't have individual shots at the moment:

My absolute favorite of the large Popy Godzillas though is the Jumbosaurus. First roaring Godzilla toy:

I need to come off my wallet and track down one of those Beetland figures, next time I get some extra cash. I absolutely love them, the red hands, chunky pose.... UGH!!

Here's the Beetland lamp. Not really effective as a light source to read by but can be used to make things a little more, romantic...of course this may totally backfire if your date doesn't get the collecting Godzilla "thing."

Makes a roaring sound when you lift the phone off of the rest.

When you pull his string he roars...wish it was a Godzilla 70's roar. Kind of sounds like a screechy cat IMHO. He's a big boy though.

I used to have a bunch of these when I was little. Then we got a dachshund who absolutely hated them. I used to have battles, me commanding the Godzilla vs. the pooch. He gnawed off all their arms and faces over time. I'll have to see if my Mom still has any pictures I could post. I remember she took a ton.

Sorry to bump this ancient thread....

I just picked up a Beetland Godzilla Lamp! It's really cool, but the only video I had seen of one in action is:

    .

The video dude's light appears to stay on like a normal lamp. Mine turns off and on randomly which kinda ruins the chill zone in my studio where I have it. Doing some research on google, the box for this lamp does seem to say "blinking" on it. Did Beetland make two versions of this lamp? Was his modified? I asked the video dude, and he said his has always behaved that way and he didn't change anything. I just wish mine didn't blink!
Thanks for any info on this unique toy!

I'm no electrician, but if there is something in the circuit inside that makes the light blink, seems like you might be able to add a jumper wire around that component and the light would stay on. Although that might be some delicate surgery.

Very cool! I don't have any kaiju "household items". I need to look into that :)

Good idea! I have a buddy who is a pro with electronics and soldering, so I may have to commission him to work on this ;)

@grosspustule I think there is only one version. I had one a few years back and it blinked for sure. Maybe someone modded it to not blink?

Thanks for confirming just one version exists @XVivaHateX ! I'm definitely going to look into getting mine modified and hopefully add a switch inside to keep original behavior or non-blinky style :)

It's like Christmas lights. Sometimes it's fun if they blink. Other times, it's a form of torture.

Haha, yes, you're correct, this one is currently torture

So i'm chatting with the dude who made that video and he said the original bulb burnt out after a couple days in his and he replaced it with a newer one and the blinking stopped. So, it's possible that the bulb in here is the original from the 80's which was designed to blink. Hopefully no modification will be needed. Looks like i'm going to take a trip to the hardware store soon... And a newer LED bulb will hopefully not get as hot too.

P.S. If anyone was ever curious what about what's going on inside a Beetland Goji lamp... here ya go!

I'm going to guess that the Beetland lamps were originally sold with bulbs like these:

We had a set of these when I was a kid. Eventually the bulbs died and we couldn't find replacements.

I think you’re right! This one makes an audible click when the light turns on and off just like you can faintly hear in the video you posted. Its cool for the holiday, just not for my studio

Got a new bulb from the hardware store and it doesn't blink anymore 8) No modification needed

If anyone ever needs to replace one in theirs, it takes an E12 T7 bulb with a candelabra base. I also ordered some LED bulbs on amazon to see if they don't get as hot as this normal style bulb. The vinyl gets squishy if you leave it on for a bit with this regular bulb
