Re: Stoner/Doom Posting this new Beastwars album up again since it's actually released and for those who haven't heard them yet. http://beastwars.bandcamp.com/ killer album artwork!!
Re: Stoner/Doom http://coughwindhand.bandcamp.com/ I feel like a fool for not remembering this came out a week ago. really great.
Re: Stoner/Doom I can't say I feel they've sunk or declined, I like it about as much. I think, much like Vol. 1 and Bloodlust, for different attributes. Mind Crawler and Devil's Work are the stand outs to me. I think the only track I've only listened to once was Follow the Leader. Not that it's bad I just didn't really get into it. It's not as directly dark as Bloodlust, but neither was Vol. 1 which seemed more psychedelic to me. Overall I don't feel let down at all.
Re: Stoner/Doom I like it as much as the others. This is probably one of my favorite new releases. Heavy psych direction which is a nice change of pace for me.
Re: Stoner/Doom Listened to Mind Control quite a bit this week. It's a good album, but it doesn't grab me the way Blood Lust or even Vol. 1 did. So in comparison, it's weak. That first song on BL just grabs a hold of you and doesn't let go - there isn't anything on MC that can compare. Though I think I like "Follow The Leader" the best - that churning, droning, fuzzed guitar with the hypnotic tambourine and airy vocals and psychedelic plectruming sounds really nice. As always, it's entirely possible that the album will grow on me over time.
Re: Stoner/Doom Ha! Just went back to read other opinions on the album - interesting that my initial favorite is your least favorite. I'm going back now to listen to your two favorites...
Re: Stoner/Doom http://mammothsalmon.bandcamp.com/ pretty good stuff. the earlier release is better i think. dunno if this was mentioned. new-ish salems pot http://salemspot.bandcamp.com/
Re: Stoner/Doom Ha yeah, my Uncle Acid experience is different, almost opposite, so maybe it explains the difference in taste. Vol. 1 grabbed me MUCH more than Bloodlust. I love Bloodlust but wasn't as into it as I was Vol. 1 when I first listened to it. So to me, Mind Control is just on par with it. But I can see the other side. Mind Control overall isn't as striking an album. I think it's one that'll grow on people more over time. Death Valley Blues has also crept into heavy rotation off of it for me.
Re: Stoner/Doom ^ I've been cranking that Orchid album too...so great. Love the Sabbath 'tribute' video too... Great minds, Jason...i'm about 5 Stone I.P.A.'s deep ( ...and a couple bong rips, I ain't gonna lie...) kickin it old school
Re: Stoner/Doom I told you a long time ago to quit buying toys for a while! Bummed I missed it this year. It was a way better lined up than last. Next year again for sure.
Re: Stoner/Doom Saw bansheebot has already mentioned these guys in another music thread - I think Heavy Lord from Russia are seriously underrated, their album 'From Cosmos to Chaos' is amazing
Re: Stoner/Doom I ask myself that every year, then I answer myself "because you can't afford to " Elder rules! their early stuff is like Sleep incarnated! "Take a hit of the cosmic blunt!"
Re: Stoner/Doom http://forn.bandcamp.com/ need to hear more of these guys... would love it if they made it to philly.
Re: Stoner/Doom http://hivelords.bandcamp.com/ new one from hivelords just came out.. definitely their best yet. getting WAY heavier with this release with more sludgy drone than before. i'm really thrilled with this album.
Re: Stoner/Doom http://beforetheeyewall.bandcamp.com/album/before-the-eyewall great instrumental stuff. love their sound.
Re: Stoner/Doom Great compilation: Destroysall (A Tribute To Godzilla) More info: ShiftyRecords.com/Destroysall Discogs.com/Destroysall (A Tribute To Godzilla)
Re: Stoner/Doom It's no Kyuss, but in my opinion it's better than Unida and Hermano...not sure if it's better than Slo Burn though. It's good to hear Brant back on drums and John singing Brant's songs is a nice change of pace. Could do without Bruno trying to solo like Josh though.
Re: Stoner/Doom It's funny, here we are a year later and I'm finally really digging Apocryphon! it totally is "more of the same", but it's absolutely solid from start to finish. And it's not entierly more of the same - there's definitely been some progression in their song writing over the years. Anyway - as with Warp Riders it took a while for me to really dig into the album. But I've been listening to it a lot lately and I'm pretty damned impressed.
Re: Stoner/Doom I've got the "lava" vinyl too. I want the glow! Speaking of The Sword and colored vinyl, have you seen the pre-order prices for Red Fang's upcoming album? I really want it but $46 before shipping!?! Stupid! I guess I'll just go for the black vinyl for $16... Oh - I'll add some music links too I guess.
