There's no such things as a professional ;)

Should we troll the site where she said that?

Still trying to maneuver this. On the homepage the contact photos are huge. Is there a way to change that?

it looks like they really rushed it in order for the redesign launch to coincide with their tumblr acquisition announcement, so many parts are still broken or not-yet-updated, including any options for layouts, etc. replacing photos is now "available" to free users, but it doesn't actually work for me (yet?). the ui for something as simple as setting the cover photo lacks finesse. hopefully everything becomes more stable as they roll out updates in the coming weeks. even at this half-baked stage, it's the only game in town, especially with 1 tb storage.

Since I already paid for a few months I tried to upload by email like before, fail! Does it even work anymore?

To be fair this was a bug which has been fixed now . . . they have stated the restriction has been lifted.

It still doesn't help in my opinion. I'm sick of this endless homogenization of the internet.
Is'nt there any activity you can enjoy anymore without fucking adverts being shoved in front of you?

Corporations are going to suck all the originality and creativity out of everything.

I heard from a friend yesterday Yahoo are going to try and make Tumblr more 'family friendly' :x

Yeah, new flickr sucks. SO much more of a pain in the butt to grab a photo for use elsewhere, and my sets covers are all cut off on the top & look like sh*t. Sheesh.

a family-friendly tumblr would be missing the entire point of tumblr... but since the original creator is staying on and retaining full control, i'm hoping that won't happen.

half the world is probably trying to fill their new 1 tb storage all at once, and those yahooligans probably weren't ready or expecting their servers to get crushed under the load

Nope, I also heard this a few days ago. It seems that Yahoo is very concerned about adult and mature content in pics being posted on tumblr, and as this is going against the family-friendly image they want to portray (by their own claim), are making plans to limit this.

Definitely not a fan of any companies telling me what I can and cannot post. Facebook has already had backlash for censoring users, and aren't these supposed to be similar to having your own webpage, like the days of old, even it is under the 'tumblr' banner. see blogpsot, etc. A Wal-Mart photography centre here even refused to print a photo of a woman breastfeeding, because nudity was against their Bible-thumping policy. Thanks corporate thinkers!

Sorry to say I'm currently backing-up all my photos (Photo Grabbr) and will be moving to another photo community site soon . . . .
unless Flickr meets the thousands of pissed-off users demands at least half-way. Which i doubt very much.

I absolutely loathe corporations in general but telling me what I can or cannot do/post makes me see red. Silver lining: there will always be an alternative made to pick up the slack. The problem is people who are creative or niche (for the most part) always flock to them and make them cool for the masses. Corporations swoop in seeing green $$$ and dumb them down for the masses by putting the least offensive values (aka hypocritical) on them. I don't even think they believe in them but they want to water it down for mass appeal.

So does this mean no more porn on tumblr?

This is excellent, sounds like a corporate press office release (although it may very well not be)
Btw thanks for pointing out the Flickr feature, I also activated it after reading your post TC :)

i dunno man, I'm not sure some freelance journalist has the final say on the subject.

If making Tumblr 'family friendly' means more advertising $$$$$$$ then surely that's what will happen . . . .

Anyone else use ipernity? Looks sort of like old school flickr. Wonder what the free account limitations are? Could not find that listed anywhere. I don't load many pics per month, might be time for a change...

I just signed up. There's no way to see what it's like unless you sign up...and so far after a few minutes, all I know is that there is a monthly limit to uploading (200mb/month). They seem to be set for people leaving flickr because you can set up your Firefox browser with a couple of add-ons to make copies or transfer your pics one by one. They are still working on the add-on to transfer all your flickr pics in 1 shot (haven't seen when that will be released). Uploading seems pretty painless and setting up folders/organizing is about the same as flickr (or old flickr). I guess the real test will be when I have more contacts.

Signed up as well. Same name and I added you Bert.

All those years on Flickr, I think 7, down the drain. 9000+ pics, my contacts and favorites, my collections all messed up.

MY MONEY! Paid up until 2014 too. UGH.

One thing we all have to take into consideration is that this is a complete overhaul of a heavily used website. While some issues are more common than others, they cannot really fix everything and have a bug free release. They could have done the overhaul next year and still have some major issues to deal with so, they just have to make the decision and stick to the release date. Some people's Favorites aren't coming up properly while other works fine...same with Contacts and what-not. All these issues, they will eventually get fixed. When? I don't know...I don't work there and even if I did, I probably wouldn't have a solid date for when the fix will be out. While I really don't like the new flickr (funny how a website dedicated to visual arts looks like a visual mess), I also understand that decisions had to be made and issues will eventually be fixed. So...all you folks with 1000+ photos that are going to delete their flickr account and move somewhere else, remember that having to move all those files will be a pain and you are going to cause that same amount of pain to your buddy who will also have to transfer a large amount of files not to mention signing up (which means giving out personal info which I know all of you love doing). Who's to say that Ipernity won't change? I bet you they will...and you will all hate it.
I'll say this...I don't seem to have as many issues as others on here do. All the basic stuff that should work, is working. My sets, contacts, favorites, groups, etc, all seem to work properly. I even uploaded a pic from my PC and via cellphone and that worked fine so...I don't really see what the problem is (except for the fact that flickr looks like crap).

    QQ more....

My main gripe is it looks like crap and that's the biggest thing for me. It's an eyesore.

This interview turned my stomach (the host is a complete tool):

    http://www.cnbc.com/id/100754205

Maybe I'm just being an idealist but I'm thinking about canceling both flickr and tumblr. I don't like the idea that some fucktards are getting rich off using me and millions of other users content. I can't blame the tumblr dork for selling out for 100 million but just once I'd like to be able to use something on the internet and not have my content sold to some giant. I mean I've been on flickr for 8 years and only originally used it to host pictures I needed to post, it only became a community to me through other users that are also here on SB.

Main thing I'm worried about is what happened over on instagram, where facebook claimed ownership of anything posted on instagram. I don't want anyone owning my photos but me. Nightmare scenario would be if I closed my account yet all those photos were out there still.

    Here's another good article:

The format changed and I didn't think anything of it.

I get on skullbrain and see this.

I guess my reaction was not outraged enough. :|

Nothing wrong with being an idealist . . . it proves you're thinking and not accepting everything shoved in front of you without question.

I just set up a free account on ipernity maybe i will enjoy a few good years posting there before that turns to shit as well.

As Lixx says: I don't like the idea that some fucktards are getting rich off using me and millions of other users content.

Its just a matter of exercising your right to choose. I choose to give up on a website that i visited and uploaded to every day for years.
I signed up for Flickr . . . the ugly abomination it is now is not Flickr. They have ruined it to appeal to a completely different crowd than their core users.

I will miss Flickr and all the peeps i used to converse with there but i've had enough of corporate meddling.
If the free account had stats i might of been tempted to stay but $50 for no ads and stats . . . its just not worth the money.
They just want millions of casual snappers with free accounts to capitalise on as much advertising as possible.

A lot of things i've posted on SB will be dead but so be it. I'm taking my 'Tumblr Fuel' elsewhere.

Moog I also was taking a look over on 500px:

    http://500px.com/

Best thing about the dilemma is it really makes you look for alternatives you might have overlooked by the complacency of staying with flickr. 500px seems to offer what flickr had minus 100mb of upload space per month (200 instead of 300). I don't really upload that much every month so it might be the way to go. Don't know how pics get archived though. Trying to wrap my head around moving years worth of photos somewhere else makes my brain hurt...
