My main point was, that if you want to form an opinion as to whether or not these belong in the american idols section of skullbrain you should look a little deeper into the lineage/intent of the piece.

I really didn't want to get caught up in defending these. I think they are a very fun little piece. You think otherwise. I am cool with that.

To answer your platform question; The head and body are a vessel to contain the brain / brain-stem / tongue. The brains are the meat of these. Luke did some really cool stuff riffing off of the original brain sculpt. If you wanted to call these a platform I wouldn't argue, but I would say they are more interesting (to me) than a typical example.
