These two are on my "Must Play before 2012/EndOfTheWorld", along with Vanquish and El Shaddai. I played the demo of Catherine and was really entertained. As for Lollipop Chainsaw, well, I'm only playing it because of Suda51. I'm dreading it because it basically looks like a re-skin of Shadows of the Damned, and that, well, was a bit tedious. Neat and had its moments though. So yeah. I did, however, complete Liberation Maiden on the 3DS (Suda51 directed). It was "neat" also. Haha. Like a really good 90s anime PSone game (reminded me of Ghost In the Shell PSX game...). By the time you got to the last level/boss, I was like "Oh man, this game is crazy!" then credits. Only an hour long? Barely? Currently grinding through The Denpa Men, started Cave Story and about to finish Ghost Trick...
Catherine was fantastic. There were so many facets to the game, both in story and in game play. One of the more innovative titles I've played this year. Highly recommended. The puzzle/dream portions of the game will definitely keep you on your toes. Lollipop Chainsaw is definitely worth a play, but it's mostly just a button-masher. Fun, nonetheless though. I'm playing Borderlands 2 right now. Tons of guns. Just as much fun as the first as long as you can tolerate the stupid dialogue.
I juts checked out the trailer for Catherine and saw that Studio 4℃ was involved. Such an amazing animation house! Have they done much else in the way of video games?
According to wiki: Video games Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies (2001) Summon Night 3 (2003) Rogue Galaxy (2005) Lunar Knights (2006) Jeanne D'Arc (2006) .hack//Link (2010) Catherine (2011) Asura's Wrath (2011) Which now has me interested in Asura's Wrath... Hmmm... But yeah, the anime sequences in Catherine look well infused. Did anyone play I.Q. (Intelligent Qube)? Catherine looks like the psuedo-unrelated-spirited-sucessor-anime-fourth-wall-breaking-sequel to that. Yeah, I need to pick up this game... Also interested in the new Professor Layton. Never played any of them, but this latest entry has me intrigued!
probably because I never got into any of the previous iterations but I am really enjoying Star Wars Angry Birds
Great, thanks for the info. I asked because I've started both Catherine and Lollipop Chainsaw and have been grinding through during the weekend and enjoying both (for completely different reasons). I agree Catherine not only has some great character design / storyline / animation but plays great and deep as a puzzle game too; and I love the Rockin' Jellybean feel that Lollipop Chainsaw has throughout For Catherine / Atlus / Nippon Ichi fans I can't but highly recommend this: Awesome artbook packed with tons of illustrations from the top Japanese anime / videogame character designers; and at a great price! PIE Books rule. Now I need to pick up Shadows of the Damned!
It's funny because I got the first angry birds and ended up bored and hated it. But my friend finally convinced me to get the Star Wars one and I'm having a blast with it. I love the lightsaber and Force push implementations and being able to reflect the lazer shots to your advantage.
Yes, I completely forgot about I.Q., I loved it. I would say that Cathrine could have been somehow inspired by I.Q. although the games are quite different in terms of dynamics (although they both involve timed cube based puzzles). The soundtrack was incredible, hours of contemporary classical if I remember well. Here's a video (unfortunately I couldn't find one without any hideous commentary): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFAdte09 ... re=related
I'm going to have to check that book out, Rb! So, some friends and I have started a podcast about video-games and nonsense. Check it out (and subscribe!) PowerGlove: Random Access Podcast! https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/pow ... d562627941 Hopefully you will enjoy.
This. http://cactusquid.blogspot.com/2011/10/ ... ewolf.html One of the most ripping-and-rad video games that probably no one has ever played. Get ready to replace your Z and X keys... EDIT: Just realized the URL to download the game expired days ago. PM me if you have a MAC and want a copy...
Perfect game for the wintery weather. Also a game for the cold storm, Castlevania! Just started The Dracula X Chronicles (aka Rondo of Blood) on the PSP. Pretty tough game, but good!
has anyone played the game 1to50? the game is very simple but frustrating. my best time is a little under 34 seconds
sick of trendy running games ? This Could Hurt is a stopping game. Basically the hero moves through a quasi 3d isometric environment full of spikes, sawblades, giant hammers, boulders, flame thrower, etc and you have to tap the screen to stop him from walking into them. game play is pretty simple and you would think it caters to a younger crowd based on the huge buttons but underneath it all, this game is fun.
I got the Super Mario Land 3 for the Virtual Console on the 3DS. First Wario game! Love it! Wario for Life.
I love Wario because, unlike other villains who are just monsters or violent or angry about something, he's just a dick. That's all there is to it. He just likes being a dick to people. Waluigi rules too.
