Do you rent or own? Contact your landlord immediately if you rent. Tell them you need that shit cleaned ASA-fucking P. Black mold is horrific stuff. We have zero ventilation in our apt (hence leaving the window open when showering) and I often wonder what could be lurking behind our walls (although I only ever see mildew around the window sills- and clean that up all the time).

I own the house, which is both good and bad. Good that I can take care of it myself and don't have to wait for someone else to do it. Bad because I have to take care of it myself. :?

Thankfully it looks like the mold is pretty isolated. About 8" wide, 30" up. Could have been a lot worse. I'll probably take lots of photos of the cleanup and post 'em here.

Good to see you are wearing a mask. Black mold is no joke. Make sure you protect the rest of the house from the mold as well. Disturbing the mold during clean up will likely cause spores to go airborne. These can then spread throughout the rest of the house. Good luck.

Yeah I was in Florida during some insane hurricanes in 04, afterwards people were dropping like flies, because of Black Mold, all the water plus high Temps, made it pop up everywhere. Keep that mask on, and stay far away from it when your not protected. You seem like your on the right track.

Yuck how scary, it looks like something from a Kiyoshi Kurosawa movie.. Stay safe and keep any pets / children far away from that room. Good luck.

I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Got the mold all cleaned up now. My contractor friend and I decided that the problem was that the spot where my shower door connects to the wall was badly caulked, so I removed all the old caulking and redid it all. Now the inside of the wall is bone dry and free of mold, and I'll be closing up the wall soon! Hooray for a relatively easy cleanup! :D

Make sure you hide something in that wall before you close it up.

Oh man that's a great idea! I was planning on just putting some damp rid in the wall, but that's a way more fun option. Hmm… What should I put in there?

Man, that sucks, but glad you got it fixed up. I know I have an issue with black mold in my shower. The builders did not use the proper green board backing, they just used normal drywall in my community. So I know a lot of my neighbors who had to do some serious renovations. I understand that my insurance company will not cover it. Bastards. So I live with it for now.

But I found this same uninvited guest on some toys (three vintage chogokin) I recently received. Here are some pix. Keep in mind that the seller said the boxes were in bad condition, but there was NO mention of mold at all. And some of the toys themselves were impacted. They stink to high heaven too. How can a seller, and a reputable one at that (who from the photos appears to run an antique shop), not mention this?

I know I should file a report with ebay, but I really want the toys. It was a fantastic deal for them based on what I paid, assuming they were not moldy. Now, considering the condition, it definitely changes things. If I were to pay full market value for these, I likely would never pick them up. I don't really want to return them, but at the same time, it sucks that they came like this. Not really sure what to do.
