Gargamel's iconic cycloptic creature hides in plain sight! The clear blue vinyl fades right into the clear blue sky... Normally saved for rainy days, we're switching it up with this Zagoran to celebrate the rare sunshine we get once in awhile. Gargamel's Clear Light Blue Zagoran will be available for sale this Thursday, September 29th at Noon Pacific at the Super7 Store and online. $95 each HERE.
Was wondering, and please don't take this the wrong way, as to why this is $95 in the US store when it's listed as being 5000 yen on their Japanese store, which is about $65 at the current exchange rate. Even $75 US would be fine, but I'm just wondering as to why the price is so drastically different.
Its price in Japan is ~$65. Super7 is usually very good about keeping to the current exchange rate and in this instance it's a large difference in price; almost 1/2 of the cost of the figure's worth extra. US one and Gargamel one both don't include shipping, but shipping is about $8 on both websites. I'm talking strictly the base price here.
there is always a markup on the japanese retail price, otherwise s7 wouldn't make any $ it has always been this way
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, Japanese kaiju companies traditionnally only give a crap discount for wholesale, and that discount is almost entirely absorbed by shipping and duties. So if s7 want to make their standard cut (and as a business, I'm sure they do), they have to charge up and above the Japanese price. This said, s7 must pay less than regular wholesale because of their distributor discount, but if they based their retail prices on that, I doubt any other retailers (Rotofugi, Lulubell, etc.) could follow and thus wouldn't get any Gargamel toys from them, rendering the distribution deal moot... Makes sense? As to why people would buy their Gargamel toys from s7 and other Western retailers instead of Gargamel direct (when possible), it's a different story... Convenience, I guess? Some companies even have agreements that make it impossible to buy direct so as not to disadvantage the local distributors (see Lego...). This said, buying a Zag from s7 to be shipped to Canada: 95$ + 25-30$ shipping. From Gargamel: 5000yen + 10-15$ shipping.
