Yeah, they went up a little prematurely and went super duper fast. I'm glad I was able to grab one though; the clear blue is gorgeous.
^^^ great score! would have loved to pick one up.. maybe another clear unpainted release that has a little bigger run?
same, i was working toward a deadline hauling ass, and it totally slipped my mind.... even when i was thinking all morning sitting in traffic REMEMBER SAMETAN AT 7PM!
Congrats to Koji & Tre' of PangeaSeed for selling out on the initial Sametan for the Sink or Swim show at Spoke Art Gallery. Awesome toy for a great cause in a beautiful blue vinyl. And you're not tripping, I thought I was, but that middle Sametan above has greenish colored feet. Even Slack showed up! Here's some nerd fans w/ Tre' of PangeaSeed. He started it. Respect. I know this is the Sametan thread but Koji painted this awesome Killer for the show. And this was my favorite art piece from the show by Dave Kinsey. More Sink or Swim pics soon on KC: http://kaijuchronicle.blogspot.com/2011 ... esent.html
Well, it looks like we have a picture of the first painted colorway now: I found this over on Gargamel's blog and went ahead and translated most of the relevant parts here: http://www.plastikitty.com/home/gar...nted-colorway-of-cometdebris-sametan-and-more for those interested in the process of making Sametan according to Ikeda-san. It's not 100% confirmed as the first painted colorway, but it's strongly hinted at being it, and I know I for one would love it if this were the first painted colorway as it's just so spot on; the great white shark motif is spot on.
that painted version is lookin' good. i'd prefer if they did it in a grey or pearl grey vinyl though, that would be true to the great white...
Yeah, dude...white belly...a little grey on the sides...maybe even some black on the back/top of the head. I'd love to ruin one of these guys.
Liking the color choices from the waist down, especially the white shoes! I wish the body were gray, too. I'd love to see him done up in some hot pink / yellow action too. I know that wouldn't be true to life, but it would be sweet to see!
i was lucky enough to get an order in through koji's site. from what i can tell (staring at a time.apple.com clock while refreshing), they went live at exactly 10pm ET so, not being an expert in kaiju semantics, could this first sametan be considered a rainy day colorway, or is there a specific shade of clear blue vinyl that it needs to be?
Just to clarify, the Sametan on the Gargamel blog is a Kiyoka custom (he was pretty excited about painting it as soon as we received them). The first painted version has yet to be decided. To avoid any confusion, please refer to the Cometdebris website for official release information. Though Sametan was sculpted by Kiyoka at Gargamel, it is not a Gargamel figure.
I would define a rainy day release as an edition made especially to attract customers to a shop when it rains. I call this version clear ocean blue.
These guys are great. I really dig the details like the stapled (sewed?) on fins and the shell toes. Congrats on the successful launch Koji.
not pure sametan subject matter, but a nice gallery of many of the pieces from the show: http://spokeart.viewbook.com/album/sinkorswim#1 the first slide has purchase info if anything catches your fancy...
shark arrived yesterday...great figure! i'm looking forward to a painted release, vand - wishful thinking i know - an unpainted black? (though mine has a weird, but minor, ding/pour imperfection in the top of its head.)
Are you talking about near Sametan's left eye towards the nose? Mine just got here today and it's got the same thing but...I think it adds character. Great attention to detail across the whole order. I am keeping the shipping box to send to someone else.
