Wow- I didn't know that, Alex! Huh- so maybe it's just that this will be the first original released by his own brand, then...
For the record, I've been shameless stealing pics from Kadomium Tank's blog: http://blog.goo.ne.jp/kadomiumtank If anybody knows how to contact him (her?) and apologies on my behalf, but also thank him (her?) for me, I'd much appreciate it. BTW, he's also got some stunning pics from SF56, plus more details on this figure.
This guy is seriously awesome...definitely a Superfest standout for me. Can't wait to see him in vinyl!
I'm in the other boat here, I would really prefer a subtle paint scheme executed more to what PK has recently done with Salamander Joe. Just enough details to leave some surprises in the sculpt.
This monster is insane. Mr. Okuda did another perfect job. Absolutely love the detail in the sculpt. Rocket on head, caterpillar feet and i already love whatever he's going to do with those arm/hands !
aw shit. That went from the "yeah, it's cool, gonna look for it" to "gotta have it, time to sell a kidney for possible aftermarket buy"
Can't wait to see what Okuda gives us for color schemes... this thing is going to be marvelous, painted up!
Painted pics up on KC. The goggles are a great touch and I think they really nailed the paint. Just an all around bad ass scrap monster. The magnet, electro ray? arms and the power coils on the back really put it over the top for me, must have.
I completely agree, an all round bad ass monster! Anybody know how big this guy is? Judging from the pics i would say about 10 inches..
http://garamania.blogspot.com/2011/06/garakutagigas-painted-proto-pics.html Last two pics show him w/ the alternate goggles!
it's unusual to have the toy turn out more detailed than the original artwork that inspired it. the sculpt is bordering on a little too busy, but the colors are spot on. i love how chunky and fun it looks. i just noticed, though, that the toy is missing the scrap metal cape in the drawing. will that be a separate attachment like the goggles?
Huh, I actually totally did not notice the cape before. Kinda glad it was not made part of the sculpt. Add-ons for people who want it would be cool, though.
Awesome news: Alex will be making the toy available stateside through his own site… I am waiting to hear back from him with further details…
The word from AW: "Preorder announcement coming soon. There will be 10 each of two color versions this summer. Then in the fall, the alternate eye sculpt will go on sale at WonderFest. The Astromonster editions for US sales will always have colorways different than the Atelier G-1 editions. Ballpark price for the US is $125."
Hmm, hope there'll be some tweaking on the paint application and/or colors? Maybe its just me, but I felt the colors on the artwork looks a lot better. Hope Alex's version will have a different approach. Still, this is the funkiest, kinkiest sculpt that had come out recently. MAJOR WANT!
I am just not feeling this one. Looks really off to me. Colors and sculpt. I get where it is going, but something is lacking in the execution. I think it is just TOO much going on, with no one area fully realized.
