and if anyone is curious to see what a quake that size can do to land... http://framework.latimes.com/2011/03/11/earthquake-and-tsunami-hits-japan/#/0
That video is nuts. I know when we lived in Bend, OR - we always talked about it turning into Pompeii if the Ring of Fire ever lit up. Let's hope that's not about to happen soon.
A tweet I caught said the coast of Japan moved 8ft. I'm assuming most or some of Japan moved with it..
I hope everyone is still doing okay. And everyone please keep checking in whenever possible; I know it's difficult and lots of communication is nuts right now but we want to know that you're all safe.
88,000 people missing... this is just unfathomably awful. Pressure building at the damaged nuke reactor, to boot.
It's gut-wrenching to watch and hear all this. My heart goes out to all fellow SBs, and thier friends and family in Japan.
These images are intense... http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2011/03/earthquake-in-japan/100022/# Very scary. So glad to hear from skullbrainers in the area that are OK.
Unfortunate that the Gundam was destroyed. But even in its current condition it's a heck of a lot better than that pink/yellow Chinese knockoff.
Yeah, someone just filled me in on another site. This is an old pic from when the Gundam was actually dismantled.
hard to say for sure, but I think most of the big aftershocks over here ended sometime around 2:00 am. I'm hoping that is the end of them and that everyone is still safe in this area at least. Of course my prayers go out to everyone
Woulda been a great opportunity for some cosplayer to put on his Char outfit and look menacing in front of it...
I also hope Dennis and Yuriko are OK, as I have yet to hear back from them. If anyone hears from either of them please post. They live in Chiba where the plant exploded and caught fire, and I believe Dennis works in Chiba and Yuriko takes the train to and from Tokyo.
This is the clip that made me realize just how destructive nature can be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6P6FlMH3 ... re=related Wow that is really scary! I can't imagine how horrific it must have been.
Just got home from work. All i heard was a couple radio reports, and let me tell you they were grossly inaccurate. These photos and reports are chilling. My heart goes out to all affected.
