Did you just get that Evil on the BST? I was trying to scrape the dough together for that and missed it. Hoping some of the Evils make it online.
here's Mori/rhnd twitter http://twitter.com/#!/4921RHND and Lulubells http://twitter.com/#!/LulubellToys and Luke http://twitter.com/#!/lulubellluke
Yeah, that yellow Chaos and black Mutant are great. Same with the cupcake Gatchigon. I like these. A lot. WANT!
The best Chaos EVAR!!! I really Really REALLY hope this gets released on RxH USA in some capacity. That is killer.
Meh. Call me when any of it's available in the US. This isn't fun anymore. The exchange rate's gone to shit, so trying to track any of these micro-runs down is just about as appealing as eye surgery.
How hard or easy something is to get has no factor towards how much I like and want it. The physical object and it's appeal doesn't change a bit for me, I'll never get that thought process. It is what it is, without any pretentions, and I either like it or dislike it. Hype or rarity or easy to get or a fun hunt, doesn't matter. Simple: It is a toy. I like how it looks. I want it. No appeal is added or lost whether I need to spend months/years getting one or can just pick it up like undies at a Wal-mart.
Don't get me wrong, I think most of them are fantastic. The Chaoses on clear are gorgeous, and seeing another new Gachigon is great. My problem is that 99% of what we've seen as 'new RxH' since the summer has been stuff that is released basically in secret in Japan only, barely making it into the secondary market, let alone over here. I can't even keep track of how many great new figures have been released to even try and assembly a want list or anything... there's been too many too fast for too long now. Mori's moving at lightning speed in Japan, but the new US dedicated side is just getting off the ground and still doesn't provide the level of news we were lead to believe. My attitude at this point is 'if it comes out through US RxH, awesome, I'll grab what I like. otherwise, I'm done.'
Yeah I was told he's really busy doing colabs and other things so all he's had time for are micro runs. I like hunting, and if I feel the price is OK enough for the figure in particular I'll go for it. If I think the price is way too nuts, pass. Case by case. That Chaos lot, I want almost all of them. But his price was high because he really wanted to trade. Straight up I bought some figures off of him. He actually tossed some freebies in, things that aren't as "hyped" but great anyway. I got an EvilBat from him for free for instance, awesome!
Did u snag the evils and heads? Some really nice ones - I stared at them, but couldnt justify double retail for a new toy + high shipping. I cant help but think if that was a known board member a torch lit mob would be winding its way throught the net towards him, but instead he's gettng praise for throwing in a figure thats not as hyped (Read: can't sell for huge mark-up). But, lke many things its a tricky line to walk - without this flipper we wouldnt have any kind of shot at some of the (IMO) coolestRxH releases ever. Last time I said this I was jumped all over for coming across as entitled, but it didnt change my opinion - I still wish it was easier to get these releases. Some of them are so cool.
Catch 22 . . . RxH have already been down that road and been bitten. make stuff too readily available and everyone loses interest. Lots of micro runs keep interest buzzing and sell out quicker . . . unfortunately they rarely show up on the secondary market so non locals lose out or have to pay outta the whazzooo! Talking of which, how was the sausagefest?
I'm not really PRAISING the guy, but considering they were 1/3 more than "US retail" (90 vs. 60) I thought it was kind of cool to throw in some free figures. Also shipping wasn't off considering I bought a few and he just boxed them all together and they went EMS, same shipping as Mandarake or Celga. I wish it was easier too, and it is sometimes, and sometimes it's not and I have to sell a few things to get things I want more. It's how it is when you don't have "hook ups" or aren't a local.
The one that really puzzles me is Pheyaos and Callgrim. Both were collaborations with American companies, and yet there have been way more releases in Japan. I remember saying that we should be patient because Onell will probably have some of the Pheyaos allocated to them. Guess I was wrong there. Tick tick tick, RxH US...
You are right. But - its one extreme to the other right - runs of 60 plus that did actually sell out for a long while (I know, I still have all these releases), and then overstaurated teh market. Figures which are blown away by the creativity and aesthetic appeal of some of these micro-releases. Compared with runs of half a dozen (guessing here) available only in store if you are lucky enough to be there. Even Tokyo collectors have complained to me they cant get this stuff - so its not just us. In the end its up to the creator how stuff is sold - but this new micro-release approach doesnt work either - not for teh RxH fan. There has to be a middle ground which flows some releases to fans not able to go to teh store or who have a direct line to Mori - but still keeps the brand buzzing (as you put it). SB's mail order policy works really well IMO. Even an online lottery. Paying $110 for a new release fight figure retailing at 4000 yen from a flipper is just kinda onerous. Sausagefest hasnt happened yet Andy - its morning here. Will keep all sausage fans posted
I've only purchased from them once, but I was actually really impressed by the Secret Base mail order system. Communication was great, everything was very transparent, and the figure came speedy fast! I'd love it if that's how some of this new RxH stuff was handled.
