Great stuff space monkey. I love the way you put your shelves together! Vintage wooden shelves, with header art in the background, nice varied collection, especially with some unusual stuff you don't really see posted here. Makes for a great mix. Thank you for posting, I wish I'd see this more often here!
Sapcemonkey-Wow! Thats a really well displayed collection, some excellent choices here. I like the Barom One section. Im definitely jealous of those display cases, they've got that old toy store feel.
The case rules. I have some dressers from the 60's I inherited but wasn't lucky enough to get a display case. Rules.
The set on top of cabinet 1 are made by Bandai circa 1960. They have real fabric clothes. It took me ages to track down the wolf! It is very hard to find (and expensive!). The other set (in cabinet 2) are also made by Bandai, I would guess 1970s. They didn't make a wolf doll for this set. They are known as "Boo Foo Woo" - it was an NHK TV kids show which was broadcast from the early 1960s. And thanks for your comments guys!
no less impressed than all the others. very nice - super cool mix!!! last dinosaur by M1 is looking gorgeous outside of bag.
^^ Great collection of crazy/weird, yet slightly cute monsters. Would love to see close ups on a few of those shelves too. (and I need that Ghonner)
Nice collection! A little bit of everything with a strong emphasis on Biskup - feels like mine! Would love to see close-ups as well! You have to scrap the Detolfs though!
THANX! All the tweeking I've been doing in recent months is so I can graduate to a better shelf/display rig. Got some interesting ideas a'brewing
I'm aware of that... I just find ironic that in many collections, any single toy in a Detolf is worth more than the Detolf itself. Most toys we collect are all unique and quirky in their own way and Detolfs are... well, cheap, but also to be found in any two stores out of three. They're the Billy bookshelves of displays. But who am I to speak: I'm a guy who still buys paintings and prints but can't find the money to frame them... Oh, and are those unpainted chocolate killers, D-No? If you ever want to part with the dark choco (or the black koi), I'm your man! Again, great collection, and great colour arrangement!
Well, and this is speaking for myself mind you, I live in a small apartment. Detolfs fill my needs: A) They're compact B) You can fit a lot of toys in them C) They're inexpensive D) Uniform- which for me is important because I have OCD's and different shelves with different sizes would send me into a fit. Lastly I'm not too over concerned with actual display units, it's the toys themselves that I really want to see and detolfs give a great display from any angle. I know they're not the hip cool collector thing to own but for me they work. To each their own. Space Monkey's collection on the other hand looks great with those vintage shelves.
I'm not trying to be a snob (sorry if I came off as one) - my store was filled with Detolfs for the reasons you mentionned, and most of my collection is actually in Klingsbos, which are only marginally better. I'm waiting for a more permanent home to acutally invest in quality display - I myself that it does influence my view of the pieces themselves. Was it Glenn that had these amazing glass shelves in a gorgeous wooden room?
I absolutely F#*KING HATE Detolfs because they let too much dust in for my liking! That said I still have three of them. All of which I HATE, but until I finally settle down these will have to do for now.
I'm thinking of looking for some interesting top of the shelf clear domes that you see in toy train setups or dioramas but these will do for now. I'd love to have some vintage cases that spacemonkey66 is rocking!
They are painted and I'll def let you know if they need to go for a swim [/quote] Petite wrote that not me.....
Slightly OT Someone's got a nice shelf up at the Alamo in Austin. Boogies, Killer J, Velocitron, etc Anyone here?
i am immensely jealous of that bwana kawadoji, drNo.. i need to put that on my want list in hopes of tracking one of those guys down..
