So we finally pulled the trigger, and after months of talking about painting my mixed-parts Bemon, it went home with Rodney and a decision was made. Hedorah very well may be my all time favorite kaiju ever, in the history of the world. With that in mind, I loved him for who (and what) he was - not a glow in the dark, vividly painted bright monster of dreams, who happened to be drippy & droopy. I liked the good ole smoggy, sludgey, maybe-about-to-pop-out-of-the-Gulf-of-Mexico pollution creature he was, ready to crush cities & suck smokestacks at power-plants. So I asked Rodney to roll with the original color palette of Hedorah, as we know him on the silver screen, and make my Bemon a real live proud-to-be-polluted monster. The end result is obviously stellar, and speaks for itself. Have a look. He did an amazing job, and in due time too - for those who don't know, Rodney is moving to California, and departing the very tiny Austin SB crew. I've been lazy, and by way of controlling my toy wanting/buying habit, I've been staying real shy of SB - but for Rodney's departure I can't help but post this. Hopefully it offers a little eyecandy to tide everyone over until he unpacks in CA, and starts airbrushing again (trust me, it won't take him long). So before I head off to see Rodney off for his last night in town, here's Bemon's last chance to say goodbye. Safe travels to Rodney, and I hope all of you enjoy the toy I've been greedily keeping to myself for the past week(ish).
Wow! Those last 2 shots outdoors really look nice. I love how natural light, outdoors, brings out the true colors on paint. Really beautiful job!
I'm always amazed by how characteristic Rodney's work is. He has a way with metallics that is distinctly his own. Congrats on an amazing Bemon! Sweet concept too! Where in CA are you moving Redhanded?
I will be in San Deigo as of the 20th, first day at the new job is the 24th See some of you soon! Thanks for the comments, I love the out door shots!
Beautiful work... and I agree with Melek... the outdoor shots really show off its color. Welcome to SD redhanded.
To be fair, they are all outdoor shots. I don't have a photo-box or indoors backdrop quiet yet, due to a thing called laziness. The many profile shots were taken sitting on top of my car, under a cover, rather than a canopy of foliage - but all the pics are just minutes apart and a few feet away from eachother. The green leaves and shadowed background really does him right, though. This was a drab & rainy day though, so we'll see how he fares downtown in the night, and perhaps under a bright blue sky - a smog monster's least favorite sight.
