i just got a realxhead walder(purple and black) and was playing and looking at it. i noticed the vinyl is way lighter and softer then for instance my red and orange spray mutant evil. same goes for some of my sb toys. why is that? is the process of translucent vinyl different or is this a cheaper production method. interesting that all my charactics figures are super thick and heavy reguardless of translucent or regular vinyl. any reasons why there are differences? mahalo
i too noticed this I jus figured the clear vinyls are jus softer since they have very little pigment or dye or whatever the fuck they use to make it colored... the solid colored stuff seams a little more PVC ish i mean on the walder real head the black vinyl is way harder than the clear purple vinyl... If anyone does know i wanna know too
i am tempted to jus chew it up...like if i was mega pimpin my kids would teeth on clear vinyls i dunno sumthin about real head figures make me wanna fill up the tub and have a fuckin water rumble... like the mean fat guy in pee wee
Conventionally, you can manipulate the hardness of vinyl plastisols by the percentage of plasticizer that is added to the mix. The more flexible the finished product, the more plasticizer that was added to the batch before molding...
yep, hyper is correct, it all depends on how hard or soft that you want the vinyl, much like how the really old skullbrain brains were soft, but the bodies were stiff.
Ahhh. . . that's wot it is 'cause I noticed compared to my other Brains the Warp brain is uber soft, like rubber.
Vinyl Hardness When you make a vinyl figure you get test shots back from the factory. These are the first figures they pull from the mould. At this point you can specifiy how hard or soft you want the vinyl plus a couple of other things before they go ahead with mass production. I've not really played with the vinyl hardness that much. Although I made my mashboy series 2 figures much softer than series one just for fun. cheers, Sol.
From what I've heard (from the factories in Japan), clear vinyl is generally softer than opaque vinyl. Some parts can't even be made in clear, as they will stretch and become disfigured when pulled out of the mold. That's why you will never see a clear standard size Zagoran.
This is an interesting concept that you bring up, but I suspect that it depends on techniques and materials used in the process at various factories. I have one of the Gebora figures from Target Earth (a rather large figure) in clear vinyl. It is made only slightly soft, but it goes against your theory because it is actually larger than Zagoran...
It all depends on the size and shape of the piece. Smaller pieces, Zagoran's tail for example, can't be made in clear vinyl at the factory they use. I guess it also depends on the factory's techniques.
This would explain my B club clear green Baltan. It's right arm is stretched really long, like it got stuck in the mold.
