So I quietly got my last celga shipment for awhile yesterday: I like the assortment I got, especially now that there are space limits and minis seem to be making a stronger appearance. The Monster Parade guys I got in trade (thanks Future Man) and are probably the best mini's I've ever laid eyes on. For more pics on how everyone is getting along in the detolfs check out the flickr page (didn't want to post 20 pics here). So I went from having a M1 Glow Woo and four M1 Matangos to the detolf madness I have now. This is in a span of a year which made me reflect: Thing's I've learned from being on skullbrain for 13 months now: 1) You can't really explain japanese kaiju to the average person. They just will give you a look and go "huh?" or say "You spent that much on a toy?" 2) You will sell whatever small amount of Western toys you have. You have to pay for those invoices somehow. Actually if it's not nailed down and you're not using it, it can be sold for kaiju. 3) Being on skullbrain only encourages you to buy more. 4) Once you break the 40-50 figure barrier, your significant other will definitely start to give you the stink eye. 5) Shipping from Japan halfway across the globe is less than 4 days. Canada- two weeks. Thanks to Tim (Plover) I learned that really quick. 6) We toy nerds are a sensitive lot. 7) Having said that- I find some of the coolest, most down to earth, knowledgeable people (not just toys) exist here that I sometimes wished lived in my town. 8 No matter what Bemons and Anraku (along with vintage) will always be the hardest and most expensive to find. 9) If you look hard enough sometimes you get awarded for all that hard labor. 10) Everyday this place is an adventure, probably why I check it before I even check my email! Thanks S7 for having this forum.
Wow! What a great haul...Zazahn and Zarab are favorites of mine! Killer Woo too! Who is the windswept looking red guy btwn the Trooper and Zagarausu??
It's a character from an animated Ultraman series in the late 70s/early 80s, "The Ultraman." I think this must have been the one that I saw recently on YJA- funny that you were the buyer. http://monsterarchives.proboards38.com/index.cgi?board=jonias&action=display&thread=176 Thumbs up on the Marusan original, too.
Congrats, Lixx. That's pretty much 90% of what I'd get. Who's that 3 minis on the right? With ga-zillion entries under kaiju they slipped pass me.
Hey Chris, Congrats on finally getting the blue GID Woo & mini......... I know you were looking for a long time..... I still need a set. And I love the other 2 half- clear Woos in the front row with the blue GID.............
lol, your list is so damn true, ESP !!!! # 2 I have actually unscrewed items off walls to sell for toys. Your collection is one of the best on the board and now I cant wait to get my red dororu !
Lixx, one can clearly relate to your observations/reflections about collecting these crazy cool objects from Japan. I agree on most of your points brother which is why after reading it, made me smile
Amazing paint ap on that Maity! Who is the vintage looking guy in front of him who is red with black sprayed swept over "bangs"? Oh, and a subrule to #4. Once you break the 40-50 figure barrier, if you don't already have a significant other, don't plan on it.
And so my envy and amazement at your collection continues, Chris! Just 13 months or thereabouts ... wow! Beautiful collection and thanks for sharing your pics.
