I re-watched all three. Going to see it this weekend.

I must say that I liked the second one better now than as a kid...

    Re: indy 4

OK, so without giving anything away, I personally loved it, maybe I have a very soft spot for indie maybe I looked past some of the rediculous plot points to care, I dont know but when I think of this and the first 3 together I just love it. All old indie fans will see all that old indie flavor in 90% of the dialogue and of course the intensely long lasting car chases, all new indie fans will be hooked by some interesting (to say the least) plot and effects, It has a lil something for everyone which is what a money making film these days needs. I recommend it highly and although nothing will ever replace the first 3 in my heart, I can certainly find some room for this new found brother.

Just got back from seeing it-

I really liked it, it is different-ish, but it works.

There are some bad bits- but hey, whos perfect?

It was like being a kid again, they dont make them like they use to- but this came close.

When everyone has seen it- we can properly dissect it and have an in depth discussion, until then, I aint gonna spoil it for anyone. :D

Yeah the bit i had the most problems with was the CGI furry things in the desert in the beginning and the 'Tarzan" swinging with the monkeys bit.

    The A-bomb bit was amazing!

The wedding was a cheese feast also, I was waiting for a twist that never came- other than that, top notch though! :D

Those are prairie dogs. Some people here even keep those as pets.

Adding a spoilers tag to the title of the thread, hope you don't mind, devilboy.

Ha ha ha- I was trying to work out what they were called, but we dont have them in the U.K so I had no idea. I suspose the english equivalent are ferrets or badgers. :D

It would have been better to use real ones I reckon- they definatly looked too 'Disney' those couple of scenes were a bit too much 'Who framed Roger Rabbit' for me!

Yeah sorry for the spoilers- I reckon most people know though, I didnt even open this thread until I had seen the film.

I am completly torn on the movie. I was really geared up to hear the theme song in full blown movie surround and never got it. Plot left a little something to be desired. All in all it was a fun movie. I know it says spolier in the thread title but just in case someone over looks that I don't want to say to much. The best line I have read about the movie so far.

"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull shoots its feeble wad early and stumbles to the finish line with a lot of effects, none of which are special."

I went last night with my g/f and a friend both who are 27 (I'm 39). I quickly asked before the movie started "OK have either of you ever been to see a Indy movie in the theater?" Both claimed yes that they saw all three and I was like "So you saw the first as a infant?" Both then looked perplexed when I said yeah the first one came out when you both were born. I thought it was funny. Anyhow....I had mixed feeling on the movie. I had me till the jungle chase scenes and then got pretty outrageous, especially with Shia Lebouf doing the tarzan thing. Also I thought the movie weakly fulfilled the usual Indiana Jones end product where the villians get what they deserve via history because of their greed. That was done way better in the three previous films. Aliens come on? Nice twist but poorly executed. Good things about the film were Harrison Ford stellar as always ( as a aged Indy- making fun of his age himself at times), and the non stop action that might have even topped some of the other films. What really really disturbed me was the hint that if more films are to come that Shia Lebouf will be taking over the reigns as his son. I loathe Shia Lebouf as an actor (he's an annoying little twat) and he will never fill Harrison Ford's shoes.

I just saw it last night. I felt like all in all, it had that 'Indy' feel to it.

However I, like many people already, hated the vine swinging bit...that was just uncalled for.

Also, the CGI at the end...I'm sure everyone who has seen it knows what i'm talking about...that was just...ugh.

After getting out of the movie, my friends and I agreed...if you showed up to the movie 10 minutes late, went to the bathroom during the tarzan part, and left 5 minutes early to beat the rush...then you would have thought it was awesome :D

I thought the intro was amazing inside Area 51- but yeah what were they thinking with that Tarzan stuff?

    SPOILERS...

With the Tarzan scene they were thinking, "hey, let's put in a reference to the old serials we were fond of, the ones that inspired Indiana Jones." I didn't have a problem with it.

I didn't have a problem with the plot device, either. After all, let's look at the previous movies and what they establish is "real" in the Indiana Jones universe:

Temple of Doom: Hinduism is real.
Raiders of the Lost Ark: Judaism is real.
Last Crusade: Christianity (and possibly, by extension, Islam) is real.

So a movie positing that extradimensional aliens are real wasn't a problem for me. I think it also fit with the transition from the 30s to the 50s. The "red scare" was in full effect, peoples' fears were much more concrete, and flying saucers were a new part of the American lexicon.

I had no problem with the plot at all. In fact, I thought it was awesome.

The problem i had with the beginning was the terrible dialog. And that fact that Cate Blanchett couldnt decide if she wanted to be english or russian. To me, the beginning felt like 'oh shit, we havent written an indy movie in almost 20 years...how do we do this?' After that I felt like it picked up and the writers were more confident in what they were doing.

I still wont forgive them for the tarzan stuff.

Going at 7:00 tonight...taking my 11-yo boy...trying hard not to bring too many pre-judgements based on what I've heard/read (all of which I swore I was going to totally avoid before seeing for myself...but, alas...)...hoping for a fun night at the movies!

You will have fun becuase it was a fun movie. One thing I did like was the sounds effects they used for the punches were almost identical to the same effects in all the other movies which kind of gave it that authentic feel.

I think it goes without saying that its the worst of the lot, no one expected it to fall that short, HOWEVER that being said I truly dont think it falls that far behind.

Thinking about it now- Im a bit confused,

The Crystal Skull needs to be returned to the ailen so it can go home-

The old Spanish conquestador took the crystal skull originally-

The other old guy found it, tried to take it back to the city, but couldnt get in so took it back to the spanish guys grave-

Then Indy and the old guy took it back to the city, cracked the riddle and gave it back to the alien so they could go home.

So my question is- where did the original spanish guy get it from? did he take it out of one of the living aliens or find it somewhere else all together?

    Did I miss a bit?

I am pretty sure the original spanish guy found it originally. They said that 6 of them went out into the jungle to find it and were never seen again. But then they discovered that they had more than likely been killed by tribe people. I think that was how it went.

So when the original Spanish guy found it- was it still inside the aliens head?

Maybe the spanish guy went all kinds of crazy like that other dude when he took it, never getting a chance to return it.

So did spielberg direct that area-51 seen and george was like uhhhhh i dunno about that, it was kind of "realistic" people aren't really into that sorta thing......thats not really what the script is going for.

Let me shoot some scenes, some vine swinging would be great. Like even a giant ass gorilla carrying him then dropping him into the car when it ran out of vines would have been better.

What the hell was the escape from that place? They just walked out of that I FART A LOT. Like uh oh shits crazy, time to casually stroll out of here. WTF!?

Also National Treasure: book of secrets, had all the "government secrets". had a rocking platform thingy, went to the same city, had an adventure solved with a father son duo, had to work with bad guys to find the treasure, had a puzzle at the top of the temple, bad guy had to die for them to get out, had a water escape. I know that National Treasure is essentially a jones rip off but seriously wtf, that was like way too much stuff similar for me.

Yeah it was similar to national treasure- I suspose they are running out of well know artifacts ( with some grounds in the realm of reality) to do films about.

I think the next one will have to be about Atlantis- that could be good, but I suspose the kid will be doing most of the action- unless he gets drafted to Vietnam.

Another thing- who was the priest at the end who married them? That was a prostetic rubber face if I ever saw one! was it Speilberg? Im thinking it may have been.

Any ideas? anyone else notice that?
