Ha, I watched this documentary with him in it the other day.

What I think is really funny is he's going for the whole tiger thing, but his hand is all tattooed like a lizard.

I think he must have been turning into a lizard first, but then saw that lizard guy and thought lizards were played out so he went for the tiger instead... Liger?

Who elses boobs would he get to feel looking like that?
My favorite disaster is Jocelyn Wildenstein, she thinks plastic surgery has made her gorgeous and says it gives her confidence. Was at one point married to a billionaire art dealer.

there's a "performance" artist named Orlan who has been working for years at making herself the ugliest woman alive...she was working on a very long project to have horns slowly grown from her head surgically...and has truly scared the bejeezus out of me every time I see a picture...not sure what she's up to now...but she is fairly successful and respected in certain circles...

this takes it too far for me...that tiger guy makes me sad...but if he's happy that's all that matters...he isn't hurting anyone...except the little kids he prob. scares on a daily basis...no reason to not live your dream...

these people send shivers up my spine...

Orlan has dedicated her life to plastic surgery as performance art. Each surgery is intended to modify her features to approximate those of some figure from a famous work of art. For example, one surgery might be intended to give her the eyebrow ridges of the Mona Lisa, another might be to give her Liz Taylor's lips from a Warhol portrait, etc. More recently she's been into trying to approximate pre-Columbian sculptures. The most recent photos I've seen show her with a hugely exaggerated nose not unlike those seen in stylized Mayan statuary. Although the point was never to be ugliest woman alive, the irony of the piecemeal appropriation of classical standards of beauty is that she is indeed extremely unattractive. However, she doesn't care, any more than, say, Genesis P. Orridge cares if anyone thinks it's weird that he has breast implants and wears women's clothing.

Part of the point of body mods is to get past not only our various social and natural inhibitions about beauty vs. ugliness, but also to get past the same regarding the sanctity of the body form and the barrier of skin itself. The person who engages in radical body mods is likely to feel that they've taken matters of appearance into their own hands, and in many cases finds spiritual affirmation in their self-challenges. Of course, a lot of it is mere trendiness at this point too. When work was finished on the Re/Search pulbication "Modern Primitives" that fueled the more-mainstream popularity of tattooing and especially piercing in the late 80s, we organized a lecture/show on related topics at Project Artaud here in SF. Andrea Juno gave a superb lecture/slideshow on the topic of breast enlargement. At the time, it seemed radical to think that something as accepted as that would be included in a show that people expected to be more about the "underground" aspects of body mod, but the case she made for it all being the same was right on target.

I met Orlan when she was in San Francisco about fifteen years ago. She has the elegant manner of French aristocracy while at the same time having a nice humility about her. She's happy to speak (either in French or via a translator) to anyone interested in talking to her about what she's doing. Despite my own familiarity with body mod culture (especially at the time) and my tendency not to judge people for what they choose to do with their appearances, I did indeed find her disturbing to look at. I didn't yet know about Jocylyn Wilderstein though. She's a thousand times scarier, finding herself to be a beautiful cat-woman. Even Michael Jackson looks better.

Most folks here can find something sympathetic in the plight of a mutant or monster, no? ;)

I used to work at a movie theatre in high school and my boss Chris, was a furry (he was a wolf or some shit) and he was friends with Kat, the guy in the pictures, he called the theatre to talked to my boss a couple times and he said "Roar" instead of hi or hello, it was sort of uncomfortable. According to Chris Kat has the scales because he thought he was a dolphin at first, but then found out he was a tiger, it sounded like bullshit to me too. Supposedly Kat is a pariah among the furry community because of his operations, I think they're just mad because he holds it down for real while they wear fake mascot costumes.
