.... are way worse than last year. i think there were as many people at this preview night than Saturday last year. and the lines to buy toys were like 5x longer (S7 especially)

    just wanted to say that....

I am soooo not surprised by this. The hobby has had 1 year to ferment since last year when alot of people got thier first taste and the word of mouth has probably exploded since then. There is probably only a small fraction of the people interested that are members on this site. Sometimes the guest count is double or triple of the member count when I look at the top page to see how many are online. Its just gonna get more insane.

it's not just toys though. there were so many more people there in general. there were already massive traffic jams, which is somewhat alarming because it was preview night.

Toy Tokyo was pretty chaotic. Spontaneous "lines", price checking, and traffic jamming. The guy selling Madballs was bugeyed and slackjawed. I told him "It's going to get a lot worse." He just shook his head.

i think this is the first time they've actually had days sell out (fri+sat both sold out). wandering around seems similarly slow compared to last year until you want to stop and actually buy something, and then it just gets stupidly slow.

one big problem is that most (all?) vendors aren't really prepared for the crush, or as prepared as they could be. the line at s7 would be quicker if they had their inventory on the computer instead of on a set of printouts which have to be consulted for product codes. munky king was writing letters on every raffle ticket to indicate what it was for ... which is totally unnecessary (toytokyo did this at first but fixed it the 2nd day). plus the convention center's wireless network just isn't powerful enough to handle that much simultaneous traffic efficiently.

New York Comic Con is considerably smaller in the toy department, Toy Tokyo was there and a couple other places but there was only those Secret Base American Spirit splatter sets last year (blech) and some of those Skull Zombis (blech too). I'm sure there was a couple more things, oh biskup was there with clear pollards but not much else.

LA holds many conventions, but I'm wondering how bad will it really be if it is in LA. I doubt that rumor, although it will be cheaper for me since it's a 15 minute drive in non-rush hour. I can only imagine the massive gridlock!!! Are you sure you didn't mishear that it was for the Anime convention? Because they will hold it there next year.

Anyways, back to the og topic. Yeah, I was wondering the same thing on preview night. It was really crowded like a regular day, I was wondering WTF?! Last year you could move pretty freely. This year you had to squeeze by people. Must be that bs selling of the 3 day and 4 day passes.

It'd be cool if they held it in Vegas, I'd way rather go there than San Diego. Not bashing SD, but next to Vegas.....cmon!!!!
