It's true, that's a great point Robert, and can be done right. The RJB Mummy is one example I would hold up where I can actually dig it, but probably more on account of the classic Ed Roth vibes. But I definitely feel like so many of the makers (as featured in this thread) are latching on to individual elements, slapping them together without any thoughts, rhyme, or reason, and a complete lack of understanding of where they have come from. See: other appropriated cultural 'symbolism' I won't get into here.

Yeah, i immediately thought of the Popsoda Baron and Mini Baron. Same for some of the earlier art toys like Robert mentioned, but yeah, nowadays i can't help but see it as a tad obvious and contrived.

I swear to Christ, that Astro Boy thing looks like Ronald Reagan in cosplay. I may have said that already, but it’s worth pointing out again.

Yeah it looks like that's what the sculptor was going for.

The last sculpt… It has to have been sculpted while on LSD. I don’t want to believe a sober mind thought this shit up.

If there was enough effort made there for an "artist's statement" then it's something about a American president that was associated with nuclear escalation mashed up with a character named "Atom." That's all the conceptual juice I can squeeze out of that rotten thing.

Yeah I could totally see that working. What is it, some kind of boar-carp? Interesting idea. I could easily dig this, especially with some modifications. But the signage, whatever it is for, is highly unfortunate.

apparently based on a sea monster from an old map.I have thought about potential toy designs based on similar beasts from antique sea charts.
Shame to see a possibly interesting design ruined.

I am like a moth to the flame with this thread.
Moog is doing the lord's work.
I do think some of Dr Chickeye's stuff has a sort of childlike charm to it though, not that I own any.

Yeah, I hear ya. Its certainly better than some of the other shite they've produced. And when I say 'produced' I mean hacked-at with blunt tools.

Check TAG site; some of these are starting to break through. As Lou Reed said; "It's a New Age". Bwahahaha.

This has been featured here to much criticism, so instead of making a dedicated thread I thought it’d be more appropriate to maintain its place. Personally, I think the toy overall is pretty fun. Has a lot of goofy, 90’s character in the face, and the textures present a Nolan Joker look to its grimace. I did state that the Rat Fink version is the only one I’d like to come into, and lo and behold by way of a good homie. And being the ultimate hero for Obake Dogs, the size and feel is similar, as is my championing of lil’ clothing on certain toys. Tear it apart!

Kaiju Tan has incredible painting skills, I’ll give him that much. The sculpts though, they’re honestly revolting. Mickey Mouse manboobs are not something I needed to see in my lifetime.
