Paul reveals a tree trunk terrorizer by the name of Sappi on March 14th, 2022, and debuts vinyl blanks and two one offs at this past Summer Slime. I couldn’t be any more infatuated with this character and the sculpt. I’ve spoken to a few collectors about how cool it’d be to have a haunted tree sofubi, and my thoughts are manifested into Paul’s creative genius. Alternating arms, a myriad of articulation, many, many intricate details within the sculpt, and a shitload of character. I’m beyond antsy to own, or even temporarily handle a painted version to highlight the many awesome aspects of this toy!

Woelly Mammoth is a cute, omake elephant that looks straight out of a Hanna Barbera cartoon. Simple and shaggy, another finger puppet friend to add to the crevices of your shelves! Paul decided to name this one after a goofy comment I’d left on a post, so he gifted me a test pull. Both are a major honor and I give Paul many thanks!!!

Yeah. I'm beyond jazzed about both of these sculpts. Excited that we got to see them in person at Summer Slime.

@Fig Belly As am I, dude! The Woelly is such a cool, funky little size, and Sappi is just impressive as all get out. I can vividly imagine skeletons hanging from the horned branches for a Halloween release!!!

Wowser these are great! Great to see Paul revisiting his tree muse. I’d always hoped to score his tree resin set from back in the day.

Did PK sellout at DCon? Was wondering if there would be any leftovers. Really loved the new ReBoot fellas!

Looking forward to some photos from DCon. I have been enjoying all the production photos from PK's IG. Here are the Sappi and Woelly I scored at GAMJAM in Portland last month. Sappi is really quite amazing in hand, and is very fun with the articulated wrist joints. Woelly is just the cutest and now joins me on my desk for work.

Beautiful @deafmetal!! Both the Sappi and Woelly you picked up there are incredible stunners, what gorgeous and fun paints. GAMJAM must have been so epic with examples like this. Completely have to echo @xSuicide Squadx's comments above, these are some wonderful toys, and the perfect characters to add to the ever-growing sofubi menagerie.

August 31, 2022: “I’m beyond antsy to own, or even temporarily handle a painted version to highlight the many awesome aspectsof this toy!” Anxiousness has been alleviated!!! Paul’s most recent barrage of shrubbery at DCon was a goddamn thicket of a booth. Amongst the incredible one offs and pair or runs, I will forever champion Paul’s red rubs. This sculpt is wild in hand. I had an exact count of moving parts, but it’s so many I’m forgetting as I type this. But Sappi is nothing short of impressive, whimsical, and a Rubik’s cube of a toy, in the sense that you turn it over and around, and fiddle with it A LOT. In addition to the obvious tree nature of the character Paul hand added artificial foliage to the horned branches atop the forehead of Sappi, which add such a great, organic detail to the sculpt. The broken axe lodged in its back is the axe that was used in an attempt to chop down Sappi, whom foiled the choppery by smashing its assailants with the wielding of a meat tenderizer. The various points of spiral grain are a great detail and house a lot of texture, for which can be found atop the head, on the back of the head, as a kneecap, and the remnants of a clean - chopped foot. The appearance of Sappi looks a bit haunting, even intimidating as a character, but it stems(ha ha) from survival, making it more about grit and preservation. I see this character as a defender of the forest. The amount of work Paul has already put into this sculpt is nothing short of impressive and flat out cool as shit.

    Thanks for sharing Robert!!!

Much inspiration from this creepy German fairytale park my aunt used to take us to. Sappi would have fit right in.
The mushrooms played piped in music. This very primitive mechanical technology is still in use.

I'm amazed it is still there.

The Paper Dragon was very inspirational to me. It had a vacuum in it's mouth and a creepy recording of someone begging for paper. I'm hoping to visit it again one day.

Finally a reason to go to Stuttgart.

very intense. I’ve seen some of this European flair for children’s tales and it’s all parts creepy and charming at the same time.

Oh, Paul, that’s so awesome! Dude, it’s cool as shit that something like this from your childhood still plays such an integral role in your character inspiration! This place looks especially rad for 1959, and it’s impressive it still stands today. What a wave of nostalgia that’ll be for you once you return. It’d be amazing to take Sappi there for a roundabout of photos, just to tie it all in. Love that Paper Dragon, as well. If you happen to get a hold of what was said in the recording it’d be cool to have that donned on a header!

Sappi just has so much personality to it and seeing what inspired @Paulkaiju it makes total sense

Paul’s inherent ability to derive his characters out of so much creative backgrounds where they can sometimes tie in to the same, coherent universe is always a major plus for me. Makes displaying certain characters together easier and funner, as well as photographing them together.

That website does have a widely detailed film! You can see it there. The mechanical Goat house is particularly terrifying.

The Dragon says "Helf! Helf! Papier!" or "Help! Help! Paper!" and actually had a vacuum in the mouth. I'll never forget my Aunt and Mom cleaning the wrappers and lint out of their hand bags.

No way! This is incredible, Paul. I remember this place well from childhood, too, and have often tried to search it out for a revisit or just to find any photos of it's classic fairytale cool/creepyness online. There are quite a few märchenparks dotted around the country, and so I could never pinpoint this one. A lot of good memories. I am made more happy to learn it is still open and operating, I wonder how much has changed. To me, these is nothing like classic animatronic and unbranded fun to really build an experience. I have many times looked at a Europa Park revisit, but it's one of those catch-22 things where I also know I shouldn't for the memories it would destroy.

Anyways, apologies for the minor derail [from a very worthy discussion topic] but reading this just made my day, at a time when I can use it. Thank you so much for sharing, and for identifying this park of 'horrors.' Now to find the playland dedidcated to Struwwelpeter and co. for some real childhood nightmares.

Yeah I'll say it. That Mammoth is super cool. Initially when I first saw it I could totally see it turned into a collectible mug as well.
