It's like there's such a mad dash to be the next big thing, the maker is just throwing everything together hoping some element will click for any potential buyer.

Most/nearly all of that sh!t on the previous page is terribly hideous in a bad, bad way. Does any of it actually sell, or are they vanity projects fostered by deep, fat pockets?

For some person unfamiliar with sofubi, with good stuff, looking at that crap might create the expectation that it's all a load of rubbish and then, dive no further.
i.e. it gives sofubi toys a bad name.

As far as I've seen, it sells well. They keep pumping them out ... there is obviously a dedicated bunch of collectors who love the fugly.

    Wow. Surprise, surprise, surprise.
Most of it looks like it was pooped out by the same person; imitation as a sincere form of flatulence.

When I hear “sofubi” my mind goes immediately to Gargamel and Godzilla. Now “sofubi” has an entirely different meaning… grotesque, freak show, shock value dinkelberries falling from the ass of a money-grubber.

I look at these and feel a great consolation and relief for my advanced age and approaching demise. Moog, your research is tireless and selfless!!

I actually quite like the Gent & Appletrap Deadman clown, as well as the Psyche Kappa by Bukimi Blasters. The Deadman brings back that classic street figure feel for me, for which I’m a rather huge fan of early 2000’s street figures. And the Psyche Kappa, as well as the other two Residents in Charmin Creek characters, always remind me of creepy, shitty Halloween masks from old photos of costumes.

Why would anybody want to collect classic, vintage kaiju when they can have all this strange beauty slapped together? (Should have made that purple type)

What’s up with all the pigs? Three new piggie sculpts all being sold at the same time, that’s wild.

Moog… you’re brave. I’ve always wanted to post some Grody here, but was afraid of the backlash. I’ve always had the impression that Luke was untouchable here on SB.
That being said… I really really dislike the baby heads.

    Pigs are the new Gorillas!

I like Luke. I like the fact he's dancing to his own drum (and has done since day #1), but I struggle to see the attraction in most of his painted stuff and baby heads creep me out too!

I struggle equally to believe that Moog is still finding so much fugly after 230+ pages.

Don’t get me wrong, Luke is definitely talented. I just really dislike those baby heads. Their eyes are soulless, and dead, and… well, you get the point. C-r-e-e-p-y.

Luke’s experimenting knows no bounds, and I can appreciate the fact that he pretty much godfathered the concept of mashups with toys, and a lot of ‘em work where they shouldn’t. *However*, the goddamn brush paints…I hate ‘em. His airbrushing is top tier, in my opinion, but the dry brush shit is just soulless and messy for the sake of. I can’t help but feel like it comes off as lazy most times, though I know nothing he does isn’t without intent.

I did post some Grody a long time ago, so yeah its been a while. I know a lot of people love his lumpy creations, but I think they'd have a tough time arguing they're not fugly. He's a specialist in disproportionate parts and intentional fugly-ness!

Well said Robert. Lazy is the right word although I agree it is completely pre meditated. I think of Luke as the Andy Kaufman of sofubi. He knows what he’s doing and usually the joke is on us.
    *edit
I say this as someone who owns close to 100 of his toys.

    Who buys this shit?

I get people want to contribute their own thing to this hobby/world, but who is buying this stuff. I’ve never seen like 98% of it in any collection pics unless it’s from the person who created it. I feel there are boxes of these unwanted toys just sitting around as a reminder of, just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

I too love Luke’s stuff, but also dislike some of it, but that goes for anyones stuff I collect. I’m not going to buy something just because so and so sculpted/painted it.
