@eleggua makes an interesting side point back up the page. Why ass around with fugly when you could make really accurate forgeries of every rare sofubi that anyone ever wanted and sell them? No need to get in the truck and go shoot somebody, you can steal right from your screen or phone. I feel kinda sick.

Woke up to see loads of folk posting pics on IG about the MVH show. Man there’s some proper stinkers in there.

Sooner or later this vanity press of bad toys will either implode with a popping noise or wither away with a dry rustling sound. But what do I know? I thought that tanning beds would never last.

Did you mean to say “a popping fart noise” or “wither away with a dry rustling shart sound” if so, this comment makes more sense here.

Don’t know about that? Key to toy sales these days seems to be the right geo-location. A lot of these things sell because they are in the heart of major collector markets. Plus there are so many sofubi factories in China now a lot of these are just passion projects done for fun. And a growing number of collectors will have the urge to do a passion project for themselves and a lot of them might be fugly, unoriginal, badly painted, etc. I think If fugly toys die out at this point, we’ve got a bigger problem.

Or else an absence of bad makes things better?

I think the average collector has their favourites and sticks with 'em more often than not. A lot of these fugly creators come and go. None of them hold the weight of somebody like Yamomark for example. The established names will always hold their value as time goes on. I can see a lot of these 'passion projects' going the way of the beanie baby once this recent interest/hype for sofubi calms down.

Every RxH and Bear Model toy I've ever bought is worth more than what I paid for it nowadays, and I don't see that changing for a long time. I'd guess they will reach a peak in value, but never drop down to less than what I originally paid. If i was a fugly collector i dont think id have the confidence to say that.

I just see this thread mostly as a way to appreciate the good toys, as compared to most of the unoriginal junk on this thread. Of course not all fugly is junk, but most of it makes you realise how good the good stuff really is.

No doubt, in the long run most will probably spend their lives rotting away in a box in an attic. It is disheartening though that some pick up more initial love on Instagram, than long term makers like yamomark. I think the issue with being an established maker is that sometimes collectors take it for granted.
Some of these new fugly brands- several brands are made by the same person, they understand how novelty is such a strong selling point in sofubi these days and use it to their advantage.

Has this person ever seen dog balls before? Because they sure don’t look POINTY.

    It’s hideous.
I love dogs. I love dog sofubi, even Dehara’s bulldog with genitalia.
I hate this. This doesn’t look like a dog. And I think this sculptor has NO IDEA how to make proper sofubi joints.

i think we can all agree, that the last thing we need is more hitler mustaches on toys.

Reminds me of something the editor of a satirical magazine in France said after the attack against Salman Rushdie:
"Nothing is sacred" (as in nothing is beyond criticism, controversies, discussions, judgements, caricatures, satire, laughter, etc by others.)

May this thread keeps on keeping on reminding ourselves of that.

Having said that, I do like Mai Nagamoto's Innocent figure, both normal and angry versions. Not into the cat and dog. The excitement about that cat kinds of blows my mind. Make sense she is working on a dog now. Maybe a fish and a bird soon?

Here is my Innocent, currently under attack by a Rampage army [IMG]

Does anybody else remember the late 20th century Tidy Bowl commercials? Litlle man dressed like somebody's idea of a yachtsman, driving his little speedboat around and around as the toilet swirls. Ultimately gravity and entropy win and everything goes down, even though the bowl now sparkles. I would love to see a sculpt or diorama of "The Little Man In The Boat", possibly battling the Poop Pup. Put the "action" back in action figures and a nice collab opp for someone.
