I will be there too. though I haven’t got any type of table situation together. I think it will be good have see people and get out to California
Trying to decide if I need to get VIP tickets or not but I can't find any kind of full vendor list. Seems like a lot of the website hasn't been updated since 2019. The show's in like 3 weeks but I haven't seen anything that would make me think VIP tickets are necessary. Anybody else have thoughts on this?
I mean, here's my opinion, what little this may mean - I'm sure some stuff will be for sale Friday, but I think Creature Bazaar's block of booths will have almost ALL the sofubi. I'm sure Medicom may bring some stuff, but personally, I don't think I'll be buying VIP, since there seems to be so little information on what's even going on event wise, both in terms of a vendor list and any sort of schedule of releases and availability. On the more positive side of things, I'm very excited to see everybody, and hoping to have another great year. Really looking forward to seeing friends and also getting the opportunity at some toys in person, it's been far too long.
Dcon is always late in posting their vendor list and any full info. This year they seem later than ever. Based on past years, VIP is essential as a lot of tables have their stuff available upon doors opening. That said, without knowing who or what will be there it is tough to decide if the VIP price is worth it. Creature Bazaar did give a nice list of makers they will have. I will have a table again this year. Hopefully I can give a partial or full list of toys we will have soon. From a vendor standpoint, it is tough to announce something only to have the toys stuck in customs. It is especially difficult right now with slower mail. I don't want to announce something, get fans excited, and then disappoint with bad news. I can say I'm making another zine for Dcon. This is a sticker for the cover.
The fact the Con is so soon and yet so little has been put out is concerning, but glad you'll be there again David! I'm sure it's hard with everything going on, and that's definitely effected the process, but I think them releasing any info is still beneficial..
I will be sitting this one out, sadly, my first dcon out since I first attended (maybe 2013?). So you will not see me running around from table to table like a madman this year.
the fact that not much as come out is a tad alarming. I hope this isn't going to be 5 booths and an empty hall. Fortunately I live 15 min from the hall, so if its a dud, I'll be a lucky one and not be burned by the potential of low turnout.
Same here unfortunately. I’ll be watching from the side lines this year, but looking forward to seeing all of the photos. Stay safe out there everyone.
According to the newest CB email, they'll be there Friday and Saturday only. I'm assuming Paul will have his usual Saturday afternoon lotto but I assume everything else will just be first come first serve? So it might be hard to grab some of the more sought-after stuff unless you get VIP. Decisions, decisions...
I'm really on the fence about this as well, I spoke with the someone at dcon and they said you can upgrade in person on friday, but that price differential is pretty steep for me personally.
It truly hard to gauge what this DCON will actually be like. The very first DCON I did it was in that tiny tiny space in Pasadena. Just one little hall. When I arrived a bit late and set up, there was this awesome tiny swarm of people excited for my goodies. Then it got kinda mellow, and the space was so small I could see and count all the people attending as they moved around this little place. Some of us would be so bummed if that were the case this year and expect more from DCON, but damn. I know nobody has talked about this yet. Kinda secret stuff... this past year and a half has been total shite! I will be more than delighted to see 20 of my favorite toy and art nerds. Even the ability to sit behind a table and whine about how bad it is will be pure joy. I am soooo looking forward to this. Maybe if I am lucky there will even be a few vintage dealers that show up. And I'll find an old Star Wars figure or a Micronaut. On an even better note, Martin Ontiveros will indeed be hanging with me for a few hours on Saturday. He won't be on the DCON vendors list
I'm a little confused by the fact that there will be a popshop live event for dcon this year. Will things be available online as well as in person? I don't know. I'm on the fence about this year as well.
I do a different form of convention for work in the electronics industry, but I am not a fan of being a vendor at an exhibit. Not sure how DCON is set up for you but I'm sure there's some similarities. It always feels like some form of "nonmandatory obligation" with extortion prices from the venue. Be it cost of booth, amenities or whatever. We don't have to go into details but I'm sure they're trying to make up lost funds from the last gap year of in person revenue. Like you said though, the comradery and community is why we continue to put up with the negatives side and here's hoping that it goes better than anticipated.
Here is a tentative list of toymakers we will have this year. More might be added, and some might not make it in time for the event. Let's hope they all do. I'll post updates as I have them. Dark Matter Toys Dirt House Resin DNA Toys Kaize Toys Obsessed Panda Okome Toy PNL Toy Works Touché Toys Trash Talk Toys Toysbian
We went back and forth over the last few weeks trying to decide if it was even worth it. Our only upside everytime discussing it was to see friends we havent seen in up to 2 years... Finally decided it's worth it just for that alone, I am not sure there will be many releases or anything i'm even after, but will be glad to see many... it's been far too long.
Bought my tickets this morning. I’ll do like in 2019: Friday and Saturday at the Con and Sunday at Disneyland. Only this time we will not be sick. See you all there!
I'll be at the Mondo booth with some exclusive TOHO vinyl (records), but we also have two Infernal drops at the CB booth next weekend, this is the first time I have flown since Jan 2020, all seems a little bit surreal!
This event seemed to go from zero to hero very quickly! Maybe next year International travel won't feel as weird! *crosses fingers*
It deffo feels odd to be flying to LA for sure, I have my fit to fly test tomorrow and I fly out Thursday morning. It HAS to get back to normal for 2022!!
