Anybody else been following this? I had heard a few friends showing his toys, or that they entered lottos early on winning, as releases kept happening dude asked for a pic of ID/DL. next lotto was I need a selfie of yourself, next lotto I need a up to date photo of yourself etc... I started laughing hearing these prerequisites to enter a lotto. Fast forward, and Vintage Vinyl Club is selling some of his figures, and he comes in saying that he prohibits resale of his toy, and if they are professional they will respect his wishes. I follow VVC but have never bought from them, seems pricey even compared to Mandarake... anyways the guy said he wishes the store respect his wishes, and that in Japan that has already been achieved. He winds up trying to start a "Anti-Resale Union" ( anyone remember toy collectors bill of rights? ) and I just saw it the other night, and legit asked him why he hasn't attacked Mandarake publicly like he did VVCHK. He claimed Japan already respects his wishes to not resale his toy, but Mandarake has a handful of times. To my knowledge Mandarake only buys in person... Thus meaning there is a great chance that yes the resale to another bigger shop is happening in his homeland, but that gets a pass. He apparently has opened lawsuits in Japan against those resaling a figure ( kind of goes against his statement that Japan respects his wishes) anyways fast forward. I find it amusing that VVC is standing up for themselves and apparently more collectors still are consigning the artist toys to them, because they keep posting and selling during all of this. I'm not even into his art at all, but was just following the story of how batshit crazy he is with the lotto entering process. I had a hell of a time trying to get one of the authentic pieces to take to Blathers... I kept buying the damn fake version...
I don't know, always seems to me like when toy makers point out high aftermarket prices or curse flippers, it's more of a self-promotional tactic to get people to perceive your toys as being valuable. This seems to be nothing but self-promotional. If he really takes issue with resale, he should stop making physical toys and go 100% NFT set his percent for the resale, see how that goes for him.
If I'd had to rely on 'lotteries' to build a decent collection, I wouldn't have a fraction of what I own and enjoy now. He's a control freak and he should get over himself. I agree, this seems like a form of self promotion.
Who is this? Also, points for the AC reference. EDIT: I just looked up the name... this is the guy that makes those robotic Dogu figures.
Wait, so he expects buyers to hang onto his toys forever? Yeahhh that’s not happening. I’ve bought a lot of toys that I later become disenchanted with. You better believe I’m going to sell it, I don’t shit money.
Like HxS, NNN and many before them, dude believes his own hype waaaaay too much! Lawsuits for reselling? For real? . . . Fuck right off!
Wow what a nutter. He's fighting a "resaler's war", because he "will cry if my mother in Hiroshima knows" and his cat has its own Insta. Regarding the selfie thing, I imagine there'd be several ez ways to avoid identification while flipping... "HELO MANADRAKE I SALE 2 U BRO"
When you buy my toys, we become soul bond. Soul Toy Bro forever. When you resell them, without asking me, that soul bond is broken and my soul gets tarnish. Forever. You don’t want to tarnish my soul do you? Hold on to my toys because they are part of you and they are part of me.
Forget this buffoon. This all started on IG. VVC posts stuff when it goes live in their shop and there was a ton of chatter on a number of the posts with this persons toys. He’s an absolute basic. Threatened seeming violence and VVC posted their address and said come get some. They noted these sales are all done on consignment. if you don’t want to sell to specific people fine but you can’t self regulate what people do with their possessions. The whole thing is a joke
Perhaps he should build a micro shredder into each toy. Auto shreds the toy if you try to sell it (oh wait! You can gather the shreds and still sell it for crazy stupid prices) https://www.cnn.com/style/article/banksy-shredded-painting-sale/index.html
So I decided to actually look at this guy’s work… first of all, what the fuck, why does he have 20.5k photos, of which 90% are just his plants?!? It was like looking for a needle in a plant nursery just to find toy pics. Second, he’s just another guy who jumped on the dogū bandwagon. What makes him feel so special?
the guy owns a plant shop and create pots which are really nice. He initially had some smalll figures like the sofubi but made ouf ceramic. I don't know how he cames to produce sofubi but response to its first release was very enthousiastic. He probably realized that the sofubi business is better than the plant/pot one. Then he went slightly crazy...
I’m guessing that: ‘can you ship my lotto win directly to VVCHK?’ will be viewed in a negative light? I am ambivalent about the toy but the tactics, well, to quote Melvin Udall, “Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.”
Unfortunately, for better or worse, you can't tell people what to do with their property. They can worship it, sell it, stuff it in their garage, eat it. But they own it. It's theirs now, not yours. Me, I picked up a Medicom VAG rainbow mini and am happy enough with that. I don't have the energy or will to enter into all these mindless raffles going on all the time. Alright, time for my nap.
