Vinyl Wonder samples are landing. Anyone want to share their thoughts? Here's mine so far..

Firstly, James was very generous with his samples and it legit felt like Christmas day. 4 colors, including a metallic, thinner, clear coat, and 2 glass bottles. Very nice!

The paints are very thick and the 1:2 ratio of paint to thinner worked very well. I tried the metallic blue first and it's beautiful. I waited 24 hours to do a scratch test, like the documentation says...and it passed with flying colors. We happy.

A few things to be aware of. Definitely use a respirator, this stuff is powerful and the smell lingers a bit longer than other paints I've used. Also, the thinner ate right through my gloves immediately, when wiping down the figure before painting. So, definitely need thick vinyl gloves, don't use nitrile. Also, the pigment is really strong so it takes a little longer to clean/clear the airbrush. That's just my experience so far. Doing more experiments soon!

So far I'm very impressed and I placed a pre-order. Very excited to have a vinyl paint producer in the US and can't wait to see the other colors and specialty paints that get produced.

It really shouldn't require a clear coat. Especially if you are only brushing it on and not thinning it down to use in an airbrush. So, the pure concentrate right out of the bottle would go on thicker and probably require some real effort to remove after its set. Its basically liquid vinyl, the real deal (thus the warnings of extreme toxicity due to the chemical solvents that suspend those vinyl particles and keep it in a liquid state, so seriously use a respirator and gloves).

But yes, as MoonspellxRites mentions, clear coats are always gonna add that extra layer of protection.

The problem is Monster Kolor is Polyurethane based. While it has no negative chemical reaction to vinyl, it's not meant for such a flexible material. Thus, the danger of it scratching off somewhat easier. Vinyl Wonder is going to chemically bond to your vinyls forever.

    Sure there is! https://www.vinylwonder.com/shop
This is all a bit of a "soft launch" so all the paints are for pre-orders at the moment. But, they'll be ready real soon! Get them orders in. I know he'll appreciate it. This stuff is gonna be a game changer.

That's so weird! I've [accidentally] used 2 email addresses and they both receive them. Maybe some sort of filter is catching it before it even makes it to your spam folder and won't let it get delivered?

For those that don't own an airbrush but want to try it, there are relatively inexpensive airbrushes out there. My brother bought one for miniature painting and it works fine for its purpose. Just know that you are buying an inexpensive set up that you might upgrade if you enjoy painting.

I bought my airbrush for them years ago. My brother bought the $110 set. I've used that cheap Master airbrush and it's fine if you're really just looking for coverage and no super fine detailing.

I'd try these paints out but I've not painted toys in years.

I finally emailed James directly and we got it straightened out, though we still don't know what was happening.
I'm getting the emails now, though!

So I am really interested in getting into painting and was wondering if anyone knows if you can use one of Vinyl Wonder’s paints and then use a different brand’s (ex. Mad Ape Ninja metallic) over it? Or is it safest to just stick to one brand?

James sent out a survey on Vinyl Wonder paint yesterday, and one of the questions- or rather statements, with a scale from Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree- was regarding how well users have found VW to work in conjunction w/ other paint brands. So, it seems it's something he's already had feedback about from users, and it will be interesting to see what the survey results are and what further info on this particular point might be forthcoming from James.

This was a great breakdown of the basics involved in prepping, assembling, and painting a vinyl toy. Hope it helps someone!
