Sad to learn of his passing. I LOVED him on SNL. He was on there at a time in my life when I was a weekly watcher of the show and he was a big part of that. His tone and delivery are unlike anyone else I've ever seen. RIP funny man!
Very extremely sad to hear about this. I don't know if this is in that compilation above, but this is one of my favorites.
Just saw news post about this. 61 is pretty young by today's standards - did not know about the cancer. RIP to a great comedian.
A legend. It was weird to be familiar with the bit in one of his specials (the tweet above is part of it) where he mocks the usual line, 'he lost his battle with cancer' ... 'the last thing that guy did was lose' ... and then half the online news sites lead with 'Norm MacDonald loses private battle with cancer'. He had a unique mind, and I will miss him.
Sad to hear this news. I had no inkling that he was diagnosed with cancer. Spot on with the 'irony' of those statements, Moog. Newsmedia outlets get very little credit from me these days, sadly. I. too, was a regular watched of Saturday Night Live during the '90s, even as I saw it as frustrating, it was still a defining period for the show, and in no small part due to Norm's contributions. Gone too soon. FU cancer.
Worth also noting here that, perhaps because of (or in spite of, depending on your point of view) his wry, acerbic wit, people might not realise that Norm was actually born in Quebec City, and outside of being one in an extensive and legendary list of comedic exports, he was also a Habs fan. RIP, Mr. McDonald.
A legend. Its the one person from that SNL time that doesnt make me want to cringe instantly. so young. A draw well deserved after a decade
I know these clips are making the rounds... I keep going back to this innocent routine, on loop. There's an even better version on Twitter that skips the coffee parts. I love that Letterman seems so entertained by it.
I saw a tweet this morning that said "Battling cancer for 9 years without telling anyone is the most Norm MacDonald shit ever."
Never been an SNL guy, but ALWAYS been a Norm guy! One of the all-time greats. I absolutely loved his Bob Saget roast - so out of left field.
Maron re-upped his 2011 WTF with Norm. Its a really good conversation. http://www.wtfpod.com/podcast/repost-norm-macdonald-from-2011
